Not really, same optics as the A version.

Unless you find a true completest who must own *every* lens by Pentax.

The market goes up and down on these. Some people are pretty proud of them (they are an A in M clothing), and sometimes not. I picked one up last year for two digit money.

Interesting...I just looked at my 28mm and it matches the dimensions on htat page, but no serial numbers are listed. Any way to tell? The only difference I see is mine has a silver trim ring on the focus ring. Otherwise it looks the same. It's probably not, but I'm curious. My serial number is 7141185.

Like I said, just curious. Mine's probably not series 2, I got it at a pawn shop years ago. Bought a ME Super, didn't have a 28mm lens (had 3 or 4 50mm ones) and they let me swap it with a 50mm so I could get the 28mm to add to my lenses. I was actually looking for a 50mm f1.2, none in sight though, and went for the 28mm instead. Not bad for a $10 camera...and the ME Super worked great for several years, until it started acting up. Needs clean, lube and seals like all of 'em.

The easy way to tell is the serial number. It's not on the trim ring around the front element, it's stamped into the lens body below the aperture ring. The one I sold was 8312659. The other differences are pretty small. The aperture ring looks different, stuff like that. If you didn't know there were two versions, you'd miss it.

Except for collectors, the price should be between the M version 1 and the A. I think version 2 is optically better but still with stop-down metering.

thanks for the info. I didn't know about the serial number.

for me it's clear they are different physically. The silver on the focus rings vs black on the 2nd version.

Focus ring is quite different, M-Version is better build, 2nd is more like plastic...

I was planing to sell to someone locally. since it doesn't hold much value, maybe sell it for 45$.

Fair price for me and him, right?

I'm asking just to be sure to get the right value. Don't want to sell something that worth really a lot for a lot less...

You know...

$45 is very good price for the buyer if the lens is in decent condition. But if you don't need it, and think it's a fair amount to you, just let your local friend have it

I don't need it, but he didn't manifest interest yet, i got a fellow pentaxforums from another city that says he interested. We'll see.

I can sell on ebay, but I find much of the money is lost on ebay fees, shipping, paypal fees. Local transaction is always best. Unless I can't sell it locally then I have no choice to ressort on Ebay.

thank you

don't worry fanfaron. I;m sure they will forgive you.

I don't like in Quebec, sorry. I was just saying I think 45 is a fair price (and I'm a cheap bastard). Good luck selling the lens. Throw it on craigslist, meet in a public space. You should sell it in no time.

It's a very good price if it's in very good condition. If you check adorama's used section or keh, you won't find an M28/2.8 for less than twice that price.

That site says says the M 28/2.8 (version 2) appears once in several years. IMO, it's completely wrong. I see version 2 on the auction site all the time. It's not the least bit rare. There's 2-3 on the auction right now.

There's a lot more version 1s, but version 2 is a common lens..

The 250-600 zoom is also shown as "once in several years". There is no way the M 28, 2.8 has the same rarity as the 250-600 zoom. You can check once a month on the auction site and never find the 250-600 zoom. But you'll almost always find at least one M 28 (version 2).

Not rare at all. Looks a bit half hatched to me in comparison to the version 1, as well. The ring around the front element looks like it was made on a budget. Just pop it on Ebay, and you will discover what its worth...about the same as version 1, because someone accidentally think its version 1.
