Just about to pull the trigger on a DA*55, and was thinking what I could pair with it on a rainy day.
Pentax really needs to make more weather sealed primes under 100mm.
At the moment they only have one- the DA*55
Yes there are the zooms, but to be honest I dont really care for zooms.

Primes and WR are so supposed to be one of Pentax's strong points so what gives? I would love to see more fast primes weather sealed under 100mm.

DA*24mm/DA24mm WR (or 26mm/28mm) f/2.0 would be a great match with the DA*55. Only one could hope.....

I believe the D-FA 645 25mm f/4 ASPH [IF] WR SDM counts as a weather resistant lens below 55mm



just think about the forward (and backward) compatibility! when you finally pick up a second hand 645D in five years time you will be happy you bought the lens.

Sorry, I just dont like zooms, sure they can be great in the IQ department , but they kill the fun in photography and are just too slow.:ugh:

Ive been looking at weather sealed primes from the other two big companys and (from what I saw) they dont offer many primes below 100mm thats weather sealed.
Pentax should use could take advantage of that and offer more of what the others dont.

Yeah I hear ya, I've been hoping for a DA* 28mm that's f/2 or faster. Or something else smallish, fast and weather sealed.
The only real weather sealed lens I have now is the DA* 60-250. Great lens, but it's not exactly small and lightweight.

f they re-released the DA Limiteds in WR versions I bet they could get a lot of folks who bought the original versions to buy the WR versions too. Even if that made them slightly bigger, they would still be pretty compact.

Pentax won't make DA Limiteds with WR. Their high end WR line is DA*. And they won't make these lines overlap. As for a 24/2 WR, it would be pretty expensive - $700+, I imagine - there is probably enough market for it, but it's not a big priority.

I understand not liking zooms, but for special weather conditions, they're ideal. You don't want to change lenses in rain. Zooms also don't take any fun out of photography - it's just a matter of requiring more discipline in using them.

The discipline is that you have to pick the focal length you want to use, rather than changing it just because you can't frame from where you are. In other words, use the zoom as a collection of primes, not for zooming from a static position.

I used to want weather sealed primes until I realized that changing them in inclement weather would prove challenging. Were Pentax to release more weathersealed primes, I can see the posts where people are complaining about water damage due to changing lenses in inclement weather.

Maybe the answer, then, is to carry a separate K-5 for each weathersealed prime!

My answer would be my K-5 with the DA*55 and my K200D with the other weather sealed prime
