hey guys, i have found an original 'all metal' 2nd hand pentax manual 70-210mm lense.it has no dust or marks on it, and is overall in great condition.i have had a thorough look and tested it also..It has the sliding zoom, and it feels very smooth. It is $300AU and i was wondering if this was a good/or bad buy... i have been told its a very sharp lense, but id really appreciate some feedback. im going to pick it up today if its a good buy?

cheers, kev

I just bid this up in eBay in this link:

Pentax PK / Vivitar 70-210mm Macro Zoom, Mint- cond. - (eBay item 110194534758 end time Nov-26-07 13:59:59 PST)

for a total of $36 + $9 shipping = $45 US shipped. My version is Vivitar PK mount and I don't quite know the macro marking, do you happen to know the extra information about the macro in the lens that you are looking? Is yours a M42 lens or PK lens?

I have been collecting cheapest gear that I can find, and vivitar is one of the lens brand that I always pay attention to

Inexpensive gear with Pentax - Hin's Tech Corner

Hope this helps you,

Thanks,
Hin

Re the vivitar lens, you need to know whether it is a series 1 or regular vivitar.

If it is a series 1 there are 4 different versions in K mount.

With the pentax what is the apature? this all impacts the value

Yes, it is the last minute finding of the deal that I don't have enough time to ask the dealer that question, I am aware of the different versions of vivitar

Vivitar 70-210 Series 1 Macro Zooms - Mark Roberts Photography

and my ebay description goes for f/4.5 to f/22 and it has description as follows:

quoted from seller:

"From my collection, A Pentax PK mount 70-210mm Macro-Zoom lens by Vivitar Lens is in mint- condition, bought from a dealer that went out of business consequently it may be a demo as it shows little signs of use.. Glass is clear and barrell finish like new.

This is a one touch lens as the rubber coated sleeve that serves to zoom and focus can be manipulated by one hand. The lens is all metal and focuses butter smooth down to 5 feet (1.6m) and the focus scale is in both feet and meters. The macro scale is marked only "1:1 M.R" Aperture range is f4.5 to a sharp f22. Lens has focal length markings at 70, 100, 135, and 210mm. There is a progressive infra-red focus indicator. Lens comes with original front and rear lens caps and a Cap Keeper. "

Thanks for the heads up.
Hin

I bought one on eBay for A$125 in good condition, maybe not great condition - a couple dust inside. The other one on eBay (with a A28 together) was finished A$18X.

I can't compare yours with mine, but IMO AU$300 seems a bit too high.

From the picture it does not look like series 1 lens. The max aperture of series 1 lens is between 2.8 to 3.5 depending on who made it.

I have also seen reports that some vivitar lenses don't fit Pentax digital due to its large size aperture ring. I hope your one will be okay.

ok, hmm, i am so confused its just not funny,. the lense i am looking at buying is a pentax 70-210mm with apature of 4. thats all the info that i can get.. so $300 is too much then?.. i think i might just buy it, given the fact that i am just confusing myself and i have tested the lense with my k100d and it seems good,

lol, ok ill ring again,,, 3rd time this morning,, hehe.i remember seeing PENTAX on the lense body and end of the lense ring.
thats the only problem with someone like me,.. im basicaly buying lenses blind.. walk into a shop, see a 2nd hand lense, see that it is cheaper than a comparable 'new' lense, and think to myself,,, well thats a gud price i guess, because it does basically the same thing, and given the fact that i am only learning, i dont need to spend big bucks on a new lense atm..
