The DA18-250mm was manufactured by Tamron and rebadged by Pentax as a DA lens. Simply the Tamron 18-250mm (Pentax mount) and DA18-250mm are sibblings with little differences. (There are a few theads about these differences, but the wide consensus is that the differences are barely perceptible.) On the 2nd hand market, there seems to be slightly higher prices for the DA18-250mm but the Tammy is as good, possibly better value.

I have the DA18-250mm and I can recommend strongly the 18-250mm as many other Pentaxians as an excellent all-around lens.

Hope that the comment wil help.

My brother-in-law has the Tamron 18-250mm and I have the Pentax DA 18-250mm. I tested both and found no difference between the pictures they take. The lenses look slightly different, the rubber grips have a different pattern and, of course, the labels. The only practical difference between the two is that newer Pentax cameras will do some 'in camera' image correction with the DA and won't do the correction with the Tamron. This image correction function adds considerable time to the picture save process, so that may not mean much, as many shooters don't want to wait that extra time.

If I’m not mistaken the Pentax version has the SMC coating which is propriety to Pentax lenses only. I believe this may be why the DA is slightly higher in price versus the Tammy because SMC is supposedly one of , if not the best, lens coating available today.
