Best Pentax Filming Zoom Lens

Hi, I am new to this forum so please forgive me if I do something wrong

I have a Pentax K-r and I have a budget of around Ģ200 to get a good filming lens that has a decent zoom.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

What type of filmmaking do you plan to pursue? If you are talking about grabbing the occasional video clip between shooting stills, the Tamron mentioned above is a good choice. If you are talking about creating narrative fiction, I would recommend using primes instead of a zoom. There are a few advantages.

1. Primes do not "breath" as much as zooms do when you pull focus. This is a pretty big deal.

2. Primes are more compact.

3. The focus throw on primes tends to be longer (and therefore more precise) than on zooms. There are exceptions.

4. Primes (at least Pentax primes) tend to have a smaller filter thread, which means you can save money on filters.

There are many more advantages and disadvantages to filming with primes, of course. The lenses that will get you closest to the typical experience of a movie set would be manual focus, manual aperture primes. These are also the only lenses you can adapt to other camera brands and retain full functionality.

DA 12-24 if you can find it - then, as fuent104 mentioned, a collection of primes (and that is manual focus primes):

Samyang 8mm - Excellent Choice for Amateurs
Samyang 14mm - Excellent Choice for Higher End Video
Pentax A 15mm - Excellent Choice for Higher End Video (Good Luck In Finding)
Pentax A 20,24,28 - Great Primes, Excellent Choices for Video (Hard to Find)
35 and 50mm Lenses also...
