what is the old saying? A fool and his money are easily parted!

although I am quite sure that is unfair (maybe).

the question is, while this is something like a stop faster than the K50/1.2, are the photos worth the dfifference in cost, is the use for the lens really there?

I am sure the leica crowd says yes, the rest of us just shake our heads in wonderment as someone spends the equivelent of a full kit on one lens.

if you compare it to other luxary items, it is like getting a ferrari in place of a chev.

people all do it and drool over the damm things. I am not so sure the same is true of a leica

At the end of the day, its legal to dream.

Here's a question: How is the Leica-R 90mm/f2 (not the new Apo) lens compared to the Pentax 100mm/f2.8?

Any thoughts??

I guess it depends on which 100/2.8, A 100/2.8, F 100/2.8, FA 100/2.8, D FA 100/2.8 or D FA 100/2.8 WR. The biggest advantage will be the speed. Someone is trying to trade a converted 90/2 in the marketplace for a FA 77.

maybe we need to be careful here, there is, somewhere out there a couple of Takumar preset 100mmF2 lenses. Last one I saw on Fleece-Bay was posted with a BIN price of $4000.

Back in the mid 70s when I started using Leica Ms to do nightclub photography, I wanted to buy one of these. The lens was made in Canada in Midland, Ontario about 140 km from where I live. It had just been released. I forget how much it cost; but I remember that the 50mm f1.4 Summilux was about CDN$750. I couldn't get a Noctilux because, I suspect, most of them were being shipped to the US. They were actually cheaper there than here because we had an embedded manufacturing tax at the time. The Noctilux probably sold for about $1300-1500. I remember the Sumilux price because that is what I bought in the end. It did the job for me and was probably a better lens all round, as the Noctilux was best corrected for wide-open use and not as good stopped down (t least, according to the reviews). And the depth of field at f1 was nil. I did most of my shooting in the nightclubs at f2 so the Sumilux suited me fine.

No Pentax dosen't, closest would be the 50mm F1.2 either K or A series.

The really scary thing is most of the these were for the M series Leica Rangefinder Cameras, so after spending all this money, you don't even get to look through this glass.

If that impresses you, check out the MSRP of this Sigma lens. And it comes in Pentax mount.

Those were 1:1 macro lenses I was referring to. I have seen a couple or 3 of those around for sell including ebay.

Although it's *slow* at f/1.2, my A 50/1.2 looks like pretty damn good value at this point!

HAHA Classic Leica collector stuff. whoever buys it will likely never even mount it on a camera i'll just go on display. Leica does all sorts of insane collectible pieces. Aside from the box and all the other crap it comes with it's no different than buying the non-LTD version for less than half the price and being able to use it.

It's a shame the Canadian plant only lasted for the one model. I almost bought one last year just before i went on vacation (the vacation is why i didn't) I should have it had the 50 1.4 and a 90 with it for $650 at one of the Pawn shops on Church st. I thought about it the entire trip and went in the day i got back. it had sold the day before
