Is this legal?

Is it legal to pay this much for such a lens? Does Pentax have one like this?

Yeah, it's perfectly legal, as long as it's not my money ...

Leica owners are a special breed. When they come to Pentax, they think that all the lenses are cheap, even ones like the FA 31.

That price is INSANE. For that price I would expect the lense to be able to shoot through walls.

it can do better than shoot through walls. it has "the ability to look deeper than the surface; it goes beyond intellect, straight to the soul of your subject matter". :P

It can take a picture in the dark.

Edit: The $105 shipping is total B.S.

What would the insurance be on a declared value of of over 7 grand? I think that's the reason for the high price.

If the lens is built to a "blueprint" standard, and is perfect in all tolerances, is assembled by hand using an expensive manufacturing technique or some other expensive thing then it is possible to be *worth* that kind of money.

I could never justify something like that, but I can understand the price of perfection.

Maybe. FedEx 2 day shipping. I have a feeling the insurance is separate. An $8000 lens would be worth a plane ride to pick up.

If you think that's bad, look up the Leica Noctilux f/0.95.

*EX++* Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/1 E60+hood black 50/F1.0 | eBay

If you want one, there's one for $100 less and free shipping Is it M or is it R versions that are convertible? At that price I'll never know the apparent joy of owning one so it really doesn't matter.

r are convertible Jeff (r series are SLR lenses. M are rangefinder lenses too short on the registration, though usable on the new GXR module. But hell if you can afford a Noctilux (the .95 or the 1.0) then you can afford an M9 and probably an M7 as a film back up
Even the 50 1.4 runs 4 grand
the 0.95 noctilux goes for 10 grand up here
I've tried a bunch of different Leica gear at points and it is amazing, but I think it's also wildly overpriced (primarily because i can't afford it )

I'll be honest, if I had Leno money . . . I'd have an M9 and the 50/1.4 as my P&S in lieu of the e-p1.

I'd have the same and a 21 1.4 as well (maybe a 24 1.4 too )

likely if i could afford it they would be my daily shooters with DSLR relegated to specific purposes (High iso concert work for instance) and a 645D for the landscape stuff
hell we can all dream
