My second Helios

Hi guys, I got this Helios 44-2 (I was looking for one for some time) in very good condition with plastic hood. The distance and DOF scales were loose due to loosen screws, just positioned & tightening the screws fixed the problem.

The serial no. starts with N007. My Jupiter 9 starts with N71, I think, was made in 1971. But N007, obviously does not refer to 2000. Any Idea?

BTW, the package also included a Zenit EM, Petri FT ee with Petri cc 55/1.8 and 28/3.5 and a M42 2X all for $30

The lenses with the serial number starting with double zero were selected ones for the higher-ups in the party. So the double zero ones are supposed to be the superior ones. It says not much about the actual image quality though because since these lenses were built quite a while ago they might have had a quite an eventful life so far.

Superior? In terms of
1) Optical Quality or
2) Built Quality or
3) Better quality control
or all of the above
Was not it the kit lens for Zenit cameras? I was curious about the year of manufacture for these lenses that starts with N00.

Edit: Never mind, found all the answers looking for
