My 50-150mm HSM II shows up in the EXIF in Adobe CS5 as "Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM II"

Lens makers put an identifying number in the lens chip that is read by the software to identify the lens. Unfortunately, Sigma has a couple of lenses where they use the same identifier number. It can be rechipped to get the correct identification if it is a problem.

I've been thinking about sending the lens in to Sigma to get the firmware updated so it will focus in live-view on the K-x, so maybe I can also mention the EXIF issue to them if I ever send it in.

The Sigma 70-200 is a DG lens, which covers a full 135 frame. Does anyone know if the newer, larger 50-150 also FF? I still shoot some film, and this could be an advantage. The lug factor is pretty significant, though with the larger size.

You would think that with its huge size increase it would be FF compatible, but Sigma's website says it's "For use with smaller chip APS-c cameras only". So apparently the big increase in size and weight is only to accommodate the OS system.

I can't understand why Sigma chose to wrap a 50-150 APS-C only lens in the same lens housing as a 70-200 Full Frame lens. Cost saving??

The whole affair is very bizarre. I can't imagine they'll sell many of the new 50-150mm. I love my 50-150mm because of what it offers in a small size. But if I was going to lug around a lens as big as a 70-200mm, then I would just buy a 70-200mm.
