I'd ask them to overnight me a replacement at no charge. An overnighted box is far less likely to be smooshed.

The second copy that I tried made no special noise while focusing or otherwise. But some lenses do make some rattling noise from the mount - the aperture mechanism uses ball bearings that may move a bit inside the mount. I am not sure if the DA* 300 has them, but see if the noise comes from the mount part. If the sound comes from somewhere further inside the lens, look inside more carefully - both from front and rear.

Also, how was your lens protected during shipping?
Thx Laurentiu. I think what you're saying is right. Because I hear that noise only when the lens is not mounted to the body. When it is mounted there is no noise. Also I did not find any quality issue during the operation of the lens related to that noise.

I realize this is an old thread about the focus ring on the da*300 but it should be similar to my da*200. Recently I have found that my da*200 seems to be focusing inconsistently and a few times has not responded at the press of the button. I have also noticed that when focused manually as it reaches infinity or minimum focus I can hear the sound of the elements clinking as they stop moving. Is this sound normal due to play because of quick shift?

My Da*300 arrived with a broken collar mount lock screw. It was fixed into place , when i unlocked it i could not lock it again. I am waiting to see what the local dealer has to say about it ..
