I hope you don't mind me butting into your thread Simon, but it is on topic I'm curious about the PF of the FA135 wide open. Anyone know how it compares with the Tammy, or perhaps with the FA77?
I have had no dramatic issues with PF with the F135, it's slightly visible in hard contitions, but nothing uncorrectable.
On the other hand, I find the chromatic aberrations really disgusting up to f/5.6 (still in hard conditions, trying to catch white branches in front of a dark stone wall), but still correctable.

Sorry, I have no uncorrected samples to show, but this one is the typical case where color shifting is visible :

The Tammy is a nice lens, but it's weakest focal length is at 135mm. Don't know if this is makes a difference to you.

Have you considered the DA* 50-135? Or is that out of the question because of the focal length range? It's really a great lens, and will be significantly smaller/lighter than the 70-200s...I hate that it's been plagued by so much discussion over SDM failures.

I used to own FA135 and Tamron 70-200 and DA*50-135.
Out of those three lenses I liked the FA135 the least. It was the smallest and the fastest focusing but on APSC I found the FOV very limiting. The sharpness on my copy was OK, and good from f3.5. OOF was good.
Tamron was the heaviest and biggest. AF was OK (accurate but not fastest) IQ was splendid (even compared to prime). I don't think it was any worse than FA135.
DA*50-135 was the best compromise. IQ was excellent at most focal lengths. Tad softer at 135 but usable. Rendering was the best out of these three (IMO). Size nicely in the middle. And AF speed more than adequate....
I know you bought DA*55 and think that the 50-135 would be a touch overkill but I think it would fit nicely...

Yeah the 50-135 doesnt interest me. Im interested in the 135-200mm range.
Still undecided, might put it on hold for the moment until I work out which one to pick.......

That's the beauty of choosing "both", you don't have to make a decision
