If I have the 16-50, does it make sense to get the 15mm 4?

A friend of mine offered the 15mm f4 Limited to me for around $400 dollars. Which is a pretty good price, considering it's a basically brand new lens, in the box, in the wrapping. I'm considering it, problem is, I already have the 16-50mm 2.8. Does it make any sense to have one millimeter wider a lens, and one stop slower? Is the quality that much better? It would round off my "3 lens kit" because I already have the 70mm 2.4 and the 31mm 1.8.

What do you folks think?

Yup. I'd get it for that price. I love my 16-50, but I hate its bulk. I am working toward a 3-4 lens compact prime kit and the 15 is on the list. It gives great results.

You will have a smaller, lighter and solidly built wide angle lens - with excellent image quality and less distortion to boot.

Ditto for me. I have both the 16-50 and the DA 15mm. The DA 15mm is a joy to use, is wider (1mm at WA is always a big deal) and has less distortion (if you correct the 16-50mm distortion at 16mm you'll get even less than 16mm). Other advantages would be the flare resistance (although the 16-50 is not that bad) and the close focusing.

But if you prefer the flexibility of zooms, for 400$ you can probably put your hands on a used Sigma 10-20mm.

Get it, you can easily sell it back for a profit if you don't like it which I really doubt.

Q: <fill in the blank> does it still make sense to get the 15mm f4?
A: Absolutely it does, the DA15 is a gem.

You wont regret it, the DA15 is in a league of its own, there is no other lens like it (wide/small under 21mm)

I am a bit late it seems, as you already got the lens, but I just wanted to assure you that you did the right thing ;-)

I already owned the DA 35 Limited and after I got the DA 15 the 16-50 did not see much use! With these two and the 55-300 I usually carry around, I found I just did not need the zoom anymore and now I travel much lighter.

I say have at it if you have the spare cash. If it's a matter of money for the food for the next couple weeks or the lens, it might be a different answer. The DA15 is a very fine lens.

Not consciously done, but yes indeed, but they where added apart from my decision i needed
the 15 over the 16-50.
I just related my swap of the 2 lenses to the OP's question.
