DA* 60-260 vs. DA* 300?

I am looking to get either of these lenses for my K-5. I shoot wildlife and frequent airshows. I like the zoom capability of the 60 - 250 but the extra reach of the 300mm. I have a Sigma Bigma and the two smaller DA* zooms 16 - 50 and 50 - 135 as well. I'd like to get your thoughts on selection. Thanks.

For the reach, the DA 300 will be a better choice. The other option is to get the 60-250 and a Tamron 1.4x teleconverter (it works with SDM) so now you have the flexibility of a zoom and the reach with a TC. Of course, you will lose about 2 stops but if you are using it with the K-5 you should be fine with a higher ISO.

You'd actually lose about one stop with the 1.4x, but you'll certainly lose AF speed and the probability of locking on the first try goes down in my experience. The other issue with using the 1.4x TC is that you have to manually enter the focal length into the body in order to use the SR system. This is obviously somewhat problematic on a zoom unless you're always using it at the same focal length.

I think as you own the 50-135, the 300 is the logical choice. My bigma 50-500 is great fro close work towards the 500mm, but crap at long shots. I think the the K5 + 300 will beat the pants off bigma.
