Sigma 70-300 vs Pentax 50-200?

has anyone done a direct comparison of these two lenses? which seems to be the better deal?

I just bought the sigma 70-300mm. It's not a bad lens, but for what I shoot, I need a wider angle. More than likely, I'll be returning it for the 50-200mm.

some samples:

this would have been a much better image if I could have gone just a bit wider. It was take what I could get or fall off the top of the dam I was standing on.

I just debated this with another member here on a different site, lol. He actually had both while I only have the Sigma. Based on his specific lenses, yes, the DA was better, but at the same time my Sigma was better at 300 than his at 200. I've also seen examples from the DA at 200 that were pretty bad. I think it comes down to whether or not you get a good copy of either lens, so I tend to really not say one has better IQ over the other. Each one has it's pros and cons as far as features go, and they are entirely dependent on what each individuals needs are, but I tend to think the Sigma offers you a little more. Someone else may not.

which does he say feels better, in terms of build quality? does one company seem to have more hits than misses? i'm kinda liking the 50-200, since i only have a 70-210 on film, so it'll feel similar..

I never thought I would say this...

[QUOTE=case sensitive;128736]I just bought the sigma 70-300mm. It's not a bad lens, but for what I shoot, I need a wider angle. More than likely, I'll be returning it for the 50-200mm.

I have the 50-200 and the tamron 70-300. I picked up the tammy for the extra 100mm at the long end and it was only $150 so what the hey. I actually like it a lot and have gotten some very nice pics with it. But I miss the 50mm at the wide end.
Maybe it is because I am so used to the 50mm length since my S-M-C 50 tak is on my camera most of the time. Or my FA 50 or the 50-200. So I am very used to 50mm. Often when I have the 70-300 on the camera, I go to grab a quick shot and I find the 70 is just a bit too Long for the wide end....
The obvious answer for me is to get a 70 or 77 limited and leave it on the camera unless I need the 300mm zoom. That way I will get used to 70mm.

To the OP... I like my 500-200 and the 70-300. You will like the sigma if you get it
