What have I bought?

Picked up a Sigma 500mm Prime (A) lens, 7.2 appears to be the largest aperture, it has a tripod mount, appears to be a very well built lens, so I succumbed and bought it. Anyone familiar with this lens? Any experience with its performance and any idea what they're worth? I realize 7.2 isn't extremely fast, but it seems to be a beautifully built lens in excellent condition. Appreciate your input. Thanks! Ralph

thanks Mikail thats close but mine appears to be an older version of that same lens. The distance scale is engraved on the body... not under that plastiic window . Also there is no button on the body. The rest looks the same. How does it perform??

What a delightful surprise! Condition is a bit overcast but I ran some test shots off a tripod using a 2 second delay. Wide open, images were crisp & sharp, some color and contrast issues at 7.2, however, moving to F11, images were superb. Also, bumped up the saturation and color settings and that solved those issues. Living in this remote area, we only have dial up so I'm unable to post the images, but I suspect this may be the best $200 long lens I've ever seen. I'll run it again when the sun finally comes out and maybe try to post some samples from my laptop when I get to civilization. But - in all - this is a pretty remarkable piece of glass for no more money than it was. Why have we heard so little about this lens?

As far as I know its been discontinued and replaced by a newer version, 500mm F5.6 or something like that.

Thanks
