Long Prime Macros?

What are the long (Above 100mm) prime macro lenses out there to be had, of good quality that is. I know of the 200* which is just about unattainable, but are there any others?

your best bet

Voigtlander 125 seems to be a good deal (if you can find one).

Bset bet: take a good hard look at the Sigma 180/3.5. The images I've seen are quite good. Obviously I cannot tell for certain, since they are web-sized images.

OTOH, I know my FA* 200/4 is insanely sharp. The images, assuming you've done a good capture (ie. windy day, etc.), show no softness in the DOF at 100% image size in CS2. Sharpening would actually ruin the image!!! Ask Chris (codiac2600) - he's seen the images about any softness... none... zero...

BTW, it is much kinder on the pocket book at around $800, but sometimes Digital cameras, canon digital cameras, sigma digital cameras, digital camera accessories, hoya filters will have them. Those copies may have cosmetic blemishes on the barrel, but no issues with the optics. They'll be around $550 - $600 (when available)...

Cheers,
Marc

For readily available, the sigma 180 is probably your best bet. However, if you already have a long, good non-macro lens, or want to pick one up, then extension tubes might be in order if you are willing to put up with them. What length do you need and what magnification are you good to get?

I own the Voigtlander 125, I bought it here:
Voigtlander SL Lenses

It went up in price by over $50.00 since I bought mine. I also own the tamron 90mm macro and that lens is really sweet and is priced very well and more available. I'm not sure if you think that is long enough though.

It's a stunning lens. I have it and the images are very sharp and the bokeh is excellent. It takes a lot of the hit-and-miss of shorter focal lengths out of macro photography. It also makes a great telephoto lens and loses little in sharpness if you add the matching Sigma teleconverters. The main issue at present is finding it in stock as Sigma apparently have a production delay for the Pentax mount (nothing much new there then).

Sigma 180 is not readily available. According to Sigma Japan, they will start a fabrication run for pentax in January.
OT Note: Sigma 530 flash will be available for P-TTL before chrismas.

Voigtlander 125mm macro is the best bet. Seriously useful and it feels really nice in hands. Not to mention its image quality

I'll add my vote for the Voigtlander 125.
