Just Scored a Pentax M 50mm 1.7!

Well, I had the day off today, so I took a ride to all the local pawn shops looking for Pentax lenses. At the end of the day, I found a near new looking Pentax M 50mm 1.7. I've had an A 50mm F2, but always wanted an all metal 50mm.

The best part was the price. Out the door for $9.95!

Can't wait for tomorrow. I think I'm going to take a ride into the mountains and test drive my new fast 50!

It's a great little lens. Very sharp and nice color rendition. If you happen to be into macro, you can reverse the 50/1.7 for macro use.

All of that for $9.95, such a steal! Congrats!

+1 to all of that ^ - the M50/1.7 was my first 'quality' prime & totally changed the way I thought about making photos. You'll love it! Be sure to brush up on your green button metering, too

This was my first prime. Of course, i've only had my K200d for a month now, but... LBA and all... it is far and away my favorite lens so far.

Pentax 18-55 kit lens (don't remember all the mumbo jumbo and too lazy to get up and walk 10 feet...)
Tamron AF 28-200mm F/3.8-5.6 XR Di Aspherical [IF] MACRO Lens Reviews - Tamron Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database - favorite of the two zooms
pentax M 50mm F1.7
Kitstar (i'm pretty sure manf. by Makinon) 28mm f2.8

Yeah, the 50 1.7 is definitely my favorite of the bunch. Enjoy!!!

Well, Tomorrow is here. What do you think of your new Nifty Fifty? It's one of my most recommended lenses for anyone asking to get into that range and at the price you paid, you just cannot go wrong..

I think this is Pentax's "niche". If you could combine your $10 prime lens with a $1000-1500 basic FF camera, you could compete with the Canikons who spent almost twice that amount for their rig...3-4X if they bought new.

Hey, I'm waiting mine to arrive.. Bought it 2 weeks ago, all the way from England! Planning to use it with the Vivitar 2x macro-corverter. I just can't comprehend that in my area it is easy to find the 1.4, but a 1.7 is scarce here.

Well I'm back from a day of riding and hiking in the high country. Give me a few minutes to convert the pictures and I'll post them here.

The "feel" of this lens when shooting is very nice. It also seems to snap to focus easily.

Here's the first photo taken with the lens today. This was shot at F5.6

Not too shabby for $10.00! I'll upload the rest of the photos of the hike when I'm done converting them.

Here is a shot of a flower along a creek at F1.7

Nice. Looks like you're going to get a lot of mileage out of that lens. One suggestion if I may, Dial down the exposure a little bit so you aren't blowing out the clouds in shots like this. You can always bring up the darker areas in post processing (shoot RAW+JPG) but blown highlights are gone forever.

Yup, I'm really starting to like it. It is MUCH sharper than all my other lenses I have and compares very well to the DA 40mm Limited I had for a while (maybe even sharper). I'm starting to see the illusive 3D effect that I've always read about with this lens

I now have a line on a near new condition SMC Tak 55mm F1.8 and extensions for $30.00. I'm wondering if I should buy that as well, or just concentrate on the 50mm F1.7. It would be hard to pass on the deal though!

Here's a couple more from Monday.
