Sigma 105mm discontinued. New DG OS HSM model.

Hi,

My wife is currently using the sigma 105 macro and it is a great lens. But the focusing speed is a bit slow but we understand all macro lenses are like that. So we have no complains.

I was browsing BHP and suddenly realised that the sigma 105 has been discontinued and replaced by the DG OS model. I could not find the pentax mount on BHP's website but I found this lens here ->
Sigma Lens 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro - Digital Camera Warehouse

Anyone has this lens? Being a HSM and OS lens, I am looking for pentaxians using this lens and their user feedback. It is not a cheap lens to start with however, so I am doing some research here.

Edit: I forgot to mention that it is a splashproof design....so that is certainly interesting.

Thanks
raider

Checked Sigma Website - does not show Pentax mount for the new model, suggest it may not be available @ this time.

If you are looking for macro lens with relatively fast AF, try Sigma 180mm or other lens with IF/RF construction.
For wetherproof macro lens the DFA 100 WR is a whole lot better lens than Sigma 105 (mainly bokeh-wise), so there is no problem that Sigma is not made anymore.

Although, inexplicably Pentax chose not to include a focus-limiter on the new 100mm macro, something that the old 100mm Pentax had, and that the Sigma (both old and new) 105mm has. If the Pentax 100mm WR had a focus limiter, I would probably already own one since it's a fabulous lens and is one of the few Pentax lenses that is not ridiculously over-priced (shhhh! Don't tell them!) Plus, I consider lack of SDM to be a bonus.

Actually I wasn't asking for a comparison between the sigma 105 and the Pentax 100 macro Each lens has its unique features.

I am only asking if there are any pentax users using the latest sigma 105 HSM OS lens. It is available in pentax mount I am sure. The HSM and OS features intrigues me. I am wondering if it is a lot better than my current 105 sigma.

I'm not sure it's that much important. I have the 100mm WR and I have access to a Tamron 90mm which has the focus limiter. In practice it doesn't matter much. It only matters when you miss the focus point and the lens has to go through the whole range but you can avoid that with the quick-shift on the Pentax, just reset it to infinity manually. And I would take the quick-shift over focus limiter ANY day, it's that much more useful. Point to point AF is surprisingly quick on the D-FA 100mm (a bit faster on the non-WR but the WR has a smoother MF feel). In the end I think Pentax made the right choice to not bother with a focus limiter.

What about price? ~$150 price difference which to people like me is a LOT.

(fwiw I think the current price of the sigma macro is overpriced as is. I bought mine new from amazon for $380 and soon after it jumped $100 for no reason)

Here the price is about the same. I didn't know it is different elsewhere. Ok then Tamron 90mm is cheaper, if the price difference is a lot for you.

I actually don't think the Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM macro is actually available in Pentax mount; however, the older non-OS, non-HSM model that's been discontinued was. I tend to use the Sigma japan website for info re. Sigma lenses, and Pentax mount isn't listed: http://www.sigma-photo.co.jp/english/lens/macro/105_28_os.htm; having said that, the Sigma USA website doesn't list it in Pentax mount either: http://www.sigmaphoto.com/shop/105mm-f28-ex-dg-os-hsm-sigma

Anyway why the Sigma when the D-FA 100mm (WR or not) and Tamron 90mm exist? I'd much prefer to see the 150mm or 180mm macro that are missing in the K-mount catalogue.

Sigma USA website doesnt list it for Sony mount either yet B&H has it for pre order.
Likewise the Sigma 120-300 f2.8, a few of us a hanging out for that one.

Glitchy website? Not everything you see on the internet is correct ( Shocking I know !)

@Raider maybe just ring DCW or CRK to find out which one it really is. Note the price on the DFA100WR is pretty nasty at that store so I wouldn't use that as a comparison.

I've got the Tamron 90mm F2.8 Macro, and if the new Sigma 150mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM actually gets released in Pentax mount or if the Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM was actually available in Pentax mount, I'd chose one them to replace the Tamron.

Locally the difference in price from old to new model is $410!

I wonder how the "splash proof" holds up against Pentax WR.....
Also says new model has rounded aperture blades, did the old model have rounded blades too?

Is the new Sigma 105mm even going to be available for Pentax? According to their website, it'll only come out in Canikon and sigma mounts.

The new 150mm, however, will be available for Pentax. It's a lens I'm particularly looking forward to:
