Need lens selection help?

I am new to Digital SLR but have been shooting with a Canon SLR and several Digital P&S. Now have the K100 and love it. Pentax for life now. Here are my current lens':

Pentax 18-55 Kit (like the lens but would like the crisp feel of the 50 or 77)
Pentax 50-200

F43 Limited
F77 Limited
F50 1.4

Just sold enough on Ebay to get about $1500 that I will put against new glass. What next. I feel I need some wide for City shooting in Chicago and travel Mostly City but I do like the 50-200 for this also. Like the idea of a zoom lke the 12-24 but also like the 21 and 40 for travel (will need to put SLR in briefcase for carry-on)
I am also considering a 1.4 Tamron converter for travel to cut down on the number of lens. Also the thought of getting the 31 limited would cover the FA Limited (like that thought should they stop making them. But I could also get more len's for travel if I wait due to the $.

You've got a nice selection already. On the wide end Pentax offers 3 superb selections

DA 12-24 F4.0
DA14 f2.8
and the DA 10-17 FE

You can't go wrong with any of them. I chose the FE because I like the effect on super wide FLs. Also, I can defish anything longer than 14mm or so, if I want a rectiliniar view.

Hope this helps some

Hi DJR

I would probably go for the 12-24/4, replace the 18-55 with 16-45/4 and get the FA31 (eqiv to 50mm after the 1.5x crop factor).

That way, you will have 12mm-200mm covered with 3 quality zooms and can use FA31 for low light, normal lens. Depends what type of travel you do but I prefer the convenience of zooms when I go travel with other people, not much time to change lenses constantly if you go with primes.

cheers
Kenny

I'm in a similar boat as you. I'm finding that I'm developing a zoom kit and a prime kit. I find the primes inherently force me to slow down and concenrate more, so they work best on outings where my primary purpose is photography. The zooms tend to come out for family outings/vacations/etc.

I am finding though. That the more I use the primes, the less I want to use the zooms. My primes are all much faster than the zooms.
