What I don't have: Canon. Konica. Oly Pen-F. Fuji-X. Minolta-Sony Alpha. Praktica bayonet and Minolta MD (after I mod one each for Pentax). Leica bayonet and LTM (after I rebuild and sell one LTM lens). M4/3. All stuff that's not readily adaptable to Pentax. The readily adaptable mounts are: OM, C/Y, NI, Exakta, and some RF's.

I've bought many mixed lots of gear, various cams-lenses-flashes-filters etc. Keep what I want, resell the rest. I'm almost tempted to keep one of each platform, just for reference. But I don't want a library of lenses; I want a usable toolkit. Everything I keep is there to be used. Or played with. Or modded. Or it isn't worth selling. Or maybe I'll get a NEX someday.

ObTopic: There's nothing wrong with owning both the FA31 and DA40. And more. You can never have enough lenses.

Agreed. Even with 40, I am always thirsty for a 30mm length.

Hello deadwolfbones. Thanks! First, I have seen quite a few of your excellent pics on these forums. Very well done.

Second, I live in Alto, down here next to Ruidoso. Sometimes my wife and I get to Santa Fe, and I might just have to take up your offer. The next time we are coming up is for the Santa Fe Wine and Chile Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24th.

Or, if you get down here in my territory perhaps we could meet up.

Maybe some beerskies and/or wine is in order.

Again, thanks!

LOL! I had a 1964; tough, quirky, very spartan, not dissimilar to the Kiron 28mm, except the Kiron f/2 is two stops faster. ;-)

Haha...very good!

Q: What's the difference between a 1964 VW Bus and a 1200mm f12 mirror lens?
A: The lens is infinitely faster

I have to admit I mostly played with slightly "younger" vw models (80's and on) but the principle is still the same ... u drive it, u fix it

The 31 is indeed a very fine lens. I've got one for sale in the marketplace that's in minty fresh condition if anyone is ready to feed the need .

Now you can save up for the 31. And the 77. And the 15. And the A50/1.2. And the Schneider Betavaron. And some Zeiss T*'s. And a 645D. Et cetera. You are doomed. Welcome!

Mwa Ha Ha Ha Haaaaaaaa....

You are welcome and as RioRico said you are doomed indeed!
As other member has said DA40 is where it all begins!

I think Pentax made this one slower and cheaper on purpose just so they can hook people on to gett hem buy, 21 then 70 and 15 later 43 and 77 and finally bite the bullet and get 31....

Once you have set your foot on this slippery slope, there is only one way to go.... The Limited way

The 15 is also in my future but after that I think it would be easier to talk me into searching for some sort of K28/2, distagon or other high end wide normal. Maybe the FA31 but it's not a strong desire right now despite its cult status.

The DA15 offers a focal length not possible with old lenses. And the DA40 offers AF which I want for street portraits and lightweight for backpacking. I was actually planning on upgrading my fast 50 to a F/FA version but now I get both the DA40 and the MF 50. the 21 doesn't interest me a lot since I like taking pics in the 24-28mm range and I'm not carrying around a 15, 21 and 28. I'm not big into portraits so the 70/77 aren't that interesting. A DFA 100mm Macro is interesting however but right now I'm looking at other options in the 90-105 macro range.

You've got a point there. Just like there are certain green-leafed gateway drugs, the DA40 is the gateway ltd lens.

It gets you hooked and leaves you craving more ... you forget about your family and friends just to get another one, until one day you wake up with a shelf full of them and wonder how you let this happen to yourself.

Quoted for Truth.
After 40, I got 15 and 70 almost immediately.

I probably would have, but they didn't exist when I got the 40. I did get the 21 very shortly after the 40.
