I bought my first Pentax at Futureshop, the K100D Super, for a great price. They only had kit lenses in stock locally.

Black's Cameras also carry Pentax and they have a local store, but they tend to only carry the lower line DSLR and kit lenses. They've had some good sale prices in the past.

There was an independent store that carried Pentax locally but they dropped the line around the time when Henry's moved in.

Three stores carry Pentax, that's not bad representation for a town of 165,000.

Well I'll be checking places like Calgary AB, Vernon, Kelowna, Kamloops and maybe more towards Vancouver BC. A few phone calls later could score a decent deal!
There are a good number of stores selling Pentax lenses out West, and most ship for reasonable prices as well:
  • The Camera Store (Calgary) - The best place to go
  • Saneal (Calgary - several locations) - Often have prices cheaper than The Camera Store, but sometimes not as much selection
  • Vistek - (In Canada, but also Canada-wide) Usually more expensive, but a good place to look if the above two don't have anything
  • McBain's (Edmonton, Lethbridge, Red Deer) - They price-match
The Camera Store is a Pentax fantasy-land. They don't bat an eye or look at you weird for choosing Pentax, they have very knowledgeable staff, and they always have a good selection. A must to stop at if you're ever in Calgary.

As for B.C., I don't think you'll have much luck in the interior. You might have to go to Vancouver area or have something shipped from there.

If you're in Toronto or have access to it, Downtown Camera on Queen St East has the most complete set of Pentax lenses I have seen anywhere. Their prices are also very competitive.

For BC in the Lower Mainland I've got some good deals at London Drugs (fa 50 1.4 for $260) Broadway Camera and Kerrisdale Cameras for their used stuff. I picked up a used Tamron 28-75 for $269 at Kerrisdale a couple of months ago...I guess this has nothing to with the original post but what the hey.

I have been to 2 of the Kerrisdale camera locations, their main store and west Van one.. past Park Royal mall. I Love going through looking for some old gems, and talking with their older staff members.. the ones that shot pentax at least through their film days. Some items are a bit over priced for old used overstocked standard lenses like a 50mm f2 or 55 f2 and 200mm f4 tak's but not too bad. Great selection and I might even take my Tamron 19AH down for a trade in! Great stores, I highly recommend them to people on the west coast for sure.

I just went to a Future shop in Calgary Ab and picked up the last 16-45 they had open box for $99!! Needless to say I was super excited. I might actually check the other future shops and pick up another just in case.

Leave a few shops in Calgary for me! I've got to head over and visit some friends soon! Which one did you get the 16-45 from? (so I don't go there too). Did they have any other lenses?

I got that one from the store in Shawnessy, I checked the future shop in heritage meadows and they had some in box but not on display. I didn't ask what they were selling them for. I doesn't seem like they have any other lenses just the 16-45 and some af200 flashes.

I'm pretty sure that Futureshop dropped Pentax long before the release of the DA 15mm. They never were very good about stocking the higher end lenses.

So I went to the Futureshop in Vernon, BC and did track down two DA16-45's they had in their casing for $399. I told the kid working "I know you don't carry Pentax anymore and this is dead stock, so go ask your floor manager what he is willing to let one of these go for." He came back a few minutes later and said "My manager said he can let it go for $340" I laughed and said "For dead stock in his store, he sure doesn't want to get rid of it, I'll check back in a few months when they are still there".

So I'll go in and see in the new year and see if they still have one.. off to check a few more soon!
