Futureshop and Pentax lenses - for the Canadians Eh!

I was just at Futureshop doing some comparison shopping for a washer and dryer when I noticed the signature black and green of a Pentax lens box tucked away at the bottom of the lens counter. Surprising as Futureshop hasn't carried Pentax for over a year now. Turns out it was a DA 16-45. I managed to talk the salesguy into selling it for $100 off retail. The St. John's location still has a couple left I think. After we settled on a price, he admitted they just want to get rid of the lenses.

Next time you're at Futureshop have a look under the counter, you might find a deal waiting for you if you're willing to bargain hard.

I doubt that they have any primes except for the cheaper ones like the 35mm f2.4. But it's worth a look to head down to a local FutureShop.

Nope. All i recall is the 16-45mm zoom f4 it is from a time back in which they carried pentax slrs. Which was over 3 years ago. So definitely you wont see the da35 2.4. My store also has them but regular priced at 399. I never bother to ask if they are willing to sell at a discount but i should ask at 100 off i think i can break into my bank for it.

Thats what they were priced at in St. John's. I just asked one of the sales guys if he'd be willing to sell it at a discount, seeing as how, 1. Futureshop doesn't have a sales agreement with Pentax and 2. the lens is discontinued. He offered $350 and then $325 + me purchasing a filter, I countered 300, no filter and stayed firm.

London Drugs and photo shops.. I have not seen pentax in any other big box or department stores in BC or Alberta. But now I'll have to check into Futureshop's and see what they have left to move a DA* or FA* would sure be nice I could even get by with a DA 15 or MAYBE a 10-17 FE.. as long as I can get it past my banker

As pointed out by Audiobomber, Henry's carries a fair amount of Pentax kit, including 3rd party lenses, but its rare to get a deal on any of it! The 16-45 is the first thing I have purchased for the camera (camera bags and tripods notwithstanding) locally. Everything else has been online purchases.

All they had left in St. John's was a couple more 16-45 and a 18-55WR I believe. I hate to think they had a 10-17 and I blew my cash on the 16-45....

Well I'll be checking places like Calgary AB, Vernon, Kelowna, Kamloops and maybe more towards Vancouver BC. A few phone calls later could score a decent deal!

I've been into Henry's a few times, and at least in my area they have very little Pentax gear in store. There's a good amount on Henrys online, but the prices are always at least 10-20% higher than some Ebay stores.

The local Henry's always has Pentax cameras and a selection of lenses on the shelf. I've bought a few lenses and both of my cameras here, and a lot of accessories. Sometimes I've asked them to match competitors' pricing, which they have done.

Pentax on those stores has never been cheaper. even for refurbished, demo, OB, returned, they still cost a lot. maybe it's just one of those very few branches that needs a quick sale very badly. the biggest joke for me though, is BustBuy.

The 16-45 is actively listed on Futureshop's website for $399. It has been there for at least half a year...
