Why do DA* lenses work on PZ-1p?

Something I read recently made me want to try mounting my DA* lens (in this case my DA*55) on my old PZ-1p film body. To my surprise two things were revealed.

1. While clearly the SDM function does not work and the lens will not auto focus, the lens responds to the thumbwheel controls to change the aperture. This was a surprise.

2. More surprising was that - at least in the viewfinder - I could see no sign that the image was cropped and gives me the thought that the DA* lens is more of a full frame image. I've also checked the DA*50-135 and it's appears to be the same thing on the image.

While I'm sure some of this has to do with the mysteries of the K-mount versions. Anyone have some insight into this?

1. DA's are AF lenses with A-type contacts, so aperture can be controlled from any A-type camera.

2. My only DA's are 10-17, 18-55 and 18-250. On my FF PK cameras (ZX-M, MV1 and K1000) they vignette at the shorter end but show no vignetting at longer focal lengths, beyond 35mm on the non-fisheyes. So apparently your 55 and 50-135 project image circles large enough for FF. But you still may have some corner loss that won't be apparent until you print.

Indeed, DA lense are A lense with AF. So the body can change aperture

If you want more intel about DA lense and FF, go to this thread, it will tell you wich lense can be use on FF and wich one may not (due to vignetting, etc ...)

FWIW, I'm fairly certain that all the DA* lenses (except the 55) will AF fine on the PZ-1p as they also have screw drives (in addition to the SDM focusing motor).

You are correct for all but the DA*55 and DA 17-70 which are SDM only.
