I bought one of these recently from B and H and it definitely didn't (doesn't) have HSM and it wasn't available at my time of purchase. I don't know that HSM would add much to lens, except to increase the price. The screw drive isn't particularly loud and it is pretty speedy.

It's a 30mm not a 300mm. It's very fast screw-driven and doesn't need HSM IMHO. Great lens absolutely worth buying (HSM or not).

The audible noise is a big factor in screwdrive vs HSM as well - HSM is even quieter than SDM - it is virtually silent, and fast. While speed may not be a factor, noise still may be!

I suppose so, but none of the Pentax limited lenses have SDM either. Anyway, I really don't think it is that noisy -- I have no problem shooting at weddings, etc with this lens.

My Sigma 30mm was definitely noisier than my limiteds.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is a great lens too (why else would it be in my bag?). I would take any lens in their HSM over screwdrive (or SDM) for both the speed and silence, I doubt it would add an appreciable amount to the lens cost as they already put it in all of their canon/nikon equivalents.
