price drop on lenses?--> used market

All

I am a pretty active lens trader on eBay and recently I noticed that used Pentax lenses seem to be dropping in price. In particular, 645 lenses seem to dropped after spiking upon the introduction of the 645D. has anyone else noticed a drop in prices on both K mount and 645 lenses?

Regards
NIck

K mount lense and M42 have their price increased continuously since fews years.

It's incredible i see everyday some M50/2 sold for 50-70€ !!!

But indeed 645 seems quite cheap

I'm pretty sure I saw a decrease in price with the neverending recession...

KEH seems to be doing a lot of price cutting. They always do when they have a lot of unsold inventory.

There are different markets:

I don't follow 645 lens prices but it makes sense for that market to at least stabilize. Since there are few new lenses for the 645D, prices shouldn't fall too low, since 645D users will still be looking to fill in their lineup with lenses that aren't available new. It depends on how many 645D users are out there.

For K-mount, anything that fills a hole in the current lineup is still going to command a high price. Long telephotos and good TCs should sell at high prices. Pentax could undercut this market with a good SDM-capable TC.

For other K-mount lenses, people are buying them as cheap alternatives to new lenses. Since they are always price-sensitive, prices won't go too high. Pentax could undercut those sales with more cheap primes. If Pentax starts selling more cameras, though, demand will raise prices somewhat.

The economy, exchange rates, shipping costs and import taxes tilt the markets in unpredictable ways. Someone in one country could be doing very well, elsewhere not so good.

If Pentax could release some cheap AF version of old K or M lense, price could drop fast

There is evident price drop for manual lenses, few days ago mint A 50/1.2 went for 475$ and two K 1.2 went for 310/375 iirc.
Takumar 50/ 1.4 now can be easilly found for less than 100, and 85 1.9 is going below 300 bucks.
it was not like that when i was buying. Unfortunately for me.

eBay UK is the same - people bidding well over the top for some really rubbish manual lenses. BIN prices are equally crazy. The only bargains left are those 'Pentax camera and two Hoya 49mm UV lenses', usually mis-listed in some obscure category.

Maybe new users to the K-mount system prefer AF-lenses instead of those old dumb lenses.

Help me understand this, having three of the same? I have only one A50 1.7 that is like new in the box but I never use it - I keep trying to convince myself why I should hang onto it.

I haven't been shopping much lately but I have noticed seasonal trends in prices and the fall is normally a slow period, especially for telephotos. I got a couple of real good deals last fall. Prices seem to jump up again close to the holidays, drop off after the holidays and then make a rather large jump up in the spring, right around the time all the tax refund checks arrive. People aren't buying much now and are likely selling more to fill their fuel oil tanks.

I'll help take those old dumb lenses off their hands, you bet!

There's a song about a supposed masculine problem-attitude syndrome: IT COMES WITH THE PLUMBING. (Related punchline: "Put the d!ck on the dumb one.") How did I end up with three M50/2's? THEY CAME WITH THE CAMERAS. One with a K1000; two with MV1's; all were in batch-lot auctions. IOW I didn't go out of my way to get them; they just happened along. (And I only kept one MV1.)

"Offbrands" are selling lower now, the crowd are getting smarter as they now aim for the renown OEM classics, hence the price climb.
I'm staying offbrand, however
