fish eye effect + focal length

i'm currently debating between getting the sigma 10-20, (currently my Canon friend has one and its awesome) and the pentax 10-17 fisheye

i currently own the zenitar 16mm fisheye and love the results

however my main goal is to get as wide a picture as possible (obviously getting a film camera would work better but lets leave that out of this for now)

when a lens is "fish eye" is that simply the distorion, (but obviously the desired distortion)

does the pentax fish eye at 10mm cover the same field of view as the sigma at 10mm, or does it cover more?

again distortion aside, which lens would cover the greatest area?

The Fisheye covers much, much more!
I once calculated it: It covers about the same HFoV as a 5mm rectilinear lens!

Btw you can de-fish an image using Pano-tools.

I love my DA 10-17!
