Kino Precision - Kiron 28mm f/2.8

I quiet recently bought my Pentax K-r and have haven't had in mind bying a new lens for a while, since the 55mm kit lens is good for now. My next buy would have been some kind of fast prime but still, it would have taken a while to aquire one because of the cost. This wonderful thing happened though when I was in a local second-hand store browsing for random stuff. I was looking at some prop, as something caught my attention.

- Ah, an old SLR lens, how nice.

Even though the K-mount with all these old lenses available was a major cause for me to buy a Pentax I always thought it was very unlikely that I would find one of these items.

- Kiron, Kino.. Japan .. 28mm. Useless data to me, but..

The cover said "PK". I knew I should know what this is. A minor blackout made me forget everything about this so I had to release the kit lens on my camera (which I had around my neck at the time) and began to carefully mount the old lens. Twist and turn, klick!

As I had realised it WAS a Pentax K-lens. I felt ridiculously euphoric as I watched the price-tag; 13$

Unfortunately it's an f/2.8, (unless there's some kind of hatch with these?)

What you bought (f/2.8) is what you get. That being said, Kiron made a very good product. and the lens is probably well worth shooting with and getting to know.

I saw one of these today in an antique shop for US$29, with PK-M mount. But I already have the Komine 28/2, and the Tamron and Kiron 28/2.5's, and a dozen other 28/2.8's, so I figured, why bother? This place also had an M50/2 priced at US$90 so it was easy for me to walk away.

The only issue I have had wit Kirin lenses, and i have both the 24 and28 mm F2 lenses is they are prone to sticky aperture blades. Optically they are pretty good

The one I found had the same problem. As the lens was cheap and all, I set up a clean environment and repaired it. The sticky aperture only needed a few flicks and then it was loose again.

Mine were free and $5 for this reason

Pulled front and ar groups and cleaned with alcohol, and dried with compressed air, then reinstallednthe glass after cleaning
