Oh, some of my most recent cheap-o's have been PK. The Tokina SD 35-200 and Hanimex 28/2.8 in PKA for ten bucks together. The Rokinon 28/2.8 and 135/2.8 in PKM for ten bucks each. The Tamron 28-70 in KAF for ten bucks. No problem!

Yes, there's always luck. It comes with persistence.

The one you happen to get mega cheap has a non pentax mount. really cheap non pentax mount lenses seem much easier to find that pentax ones. While modding can be fun and challenging, it also gets tiresomeness at times.
Of the easiest mods, my C/Y lenses were cheap; the Nikkors and OM's, not quite so cheap -- except various Vivitar, Soligor, Chinon, Paragon in Nikon mount, those have been in the ten-buck range. Cheapest are those in Exakta mount, super-simple to adapt; most of the work is in grinding down the adapter. As long as I don't have to replace the base, my modding is easy and trivial, perfect for my limited skills and attention span.

Then there are the Petri and Pentacon Bayonet and Minolta MD's. THOSE are a tedious bother. Actually, my first Petri bayonet mod (55/1.7) wasn't bad -- pull off the old base, glue on a cheap clone M42-PK adapter. My current one (35/2.8) is trickier, again with trying to keep the aperture from springing wide open. And the Pentacon, I don't even want to talk about it. Once is enough.

I have gotten some pretty cheap pentax lenses but it seems there are more cheap ones out there in other mounts that go cheap. Part of it may be I'm getting a lot more picky what I buy. I already have massive overkill (auto and manual focus) in the 70-200, 28-90 or similar ranges, and 3 manual and 1 auto focus in the 28-200 or similar range. I would like a better 28-200 AF though. I also have several up to 300, a 500 and a few 2x converters. There isn't much left to buy. I would really like a 28-90 or similar 2.8 constant (just got a 35-70mm 2.5-3.5 and have a couple other similar including a 35-200 3-4.5 so roughly 3-3.3 in the 35-70 range). It's more just new toys and LBA now.

The 35-70mm 2.5-3.5 was canon (supposed to be olympus) and was worried about shortening it 3.5mm but that turned out to be the last of my concerns. The original mount was almost 10mm thick!! I really wish I had a suitable 4 screw donor mount to use but it looks like it will get a pk-macro adapter. Aperture is wide open but I think I can use its original aperture operation lever modded to get m42 type operation.

Massive overload, eh? I have a treatment for that. I now have 4 in the 28-80 neighborhood (3 AF) and 5 in the 70-200 range (all MF, 1 is M42) (and another 3 to sell ASAP). I had 12 more of each (mostly MF) but I treated myself and sold them all. Reason: It's too easy to sucked into grabbing cheap MF's in those and nearby ranges; and more important, SR is clumsy with MF zooms. So yeah, I got very picky. Life on eBay is much easier when I can just ignore whole classes of goodies.

The MF zooms I kept are either special, or not worth selling (yet). And I'm certainly not tempted to mod any more. You're modding Canon mounts to PK? You are braver than I! Or nutzer, maybe. Have fun!
