I love the 50 as a walk around, and my old 55 got the most use of all my manual primes.

100 would be better for some things but in that range, I tend to prefer a zoom.

If you learn to "see" in 50/55mm, it does not seem that tight. Perspective is not too compressed, its just a little difficult in tight quarters. Others prefer a looser composition. It is very much personal taste.

I love walking around with Fifties; sometimes I carry a few at once for various purposes. But I know their short-tele FOV and I mount them with that in mind, to see just that much when I shoot. I find 28mm a much more general-purpose focal length. (I find 35mm pretty boring, but that's just me.) 100mm isn't bad but that's for more specialized situations. I'm more likely to go walkabout with a 300 than a 100. Again, YMMV.

For shooting in the wet, I'd recommend: Take whatever WR's you think you'll use. An extra lens in your bag probably won't kill you.

DA* 55 as walk-around lens

Greetings!
Yes, the FA31 and DA 100 Macro WR would both be excellent optics for the Northwest...if only my backpack (and wallet) felt the same!

Your backpack does not matter; it's only 2 lenses You can get a smaller backpack

I know as FA31Ltd + DFA100WR is my combo for the K5. I carry the DA18-55WR as well for those occasions that I really, really need wide (not often) and if the weather is really bad (although I have even used the FA31Ltd (unprotected) in pouring rain without ill effects on the lens).

It fits in a lowepro offtrail 2 with only one side pouch

My 'walkaround lenses' are the Sigma 30/1.4 and Contax Zeiss 85/1.4. These are great focal lengths whereas 50 falls between two bridges for me.

For the OP and the marathon then I'd think the 16-50 & 50-200 are far preferable to the 55. For walkaround at night and artistic purposes then the 55/1.4 comes into it's own.
