Using a Pentax Lens on a Canon body

This one:

My boyfriend have a SLR Canon EOS 5000
This one:

Since my K1000 have some mechanical issues, i was thinking if is possible to use my smc FA 100-300 mm f/4.7-5.8 lens on my boyfriend´s Canon EOS 5000 body.

I heard that there exist some kind of adapters to make this connection but i dont know how to use.

does any one can help me?

i found some products on the internet but i dont know which one i must buy:

$16.36 - TinyDeal - Pentax PK Lens Adapter f Canon EOS EF 550D 500D 7D 5D VLE-46822

$27.42 - TinyDeal - AF Confirm Pentax PK Lens to Canon EOS EF Mount Adapter for 60D VLE-46837

Any help?

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work, but there are two caveats:

1. None of the adapters will allow for autofocus that I have seen.
2. The bayonet mount may stick out into the camera far enough to foul the mirror.

The AF confirm chipped adapter is pretty useful - though kind of convoluted to program - to keep the focal length on the photos. Unfortunately, for a zoom, it has no means of communication with the chip, so the focal length stays what you set it at initially. The auto focus confirmation is much more useful on digital SLR cameras.

Also, not all of the adapters will focus to infinity, so keep that in mind when you are choosing an adapter.
Hope that helps.

The PK to Canon eos adapters will work on the 1.6x crop dslr cameras like the digital rebel or 60D, but the aperture lever on the pentax lens will more than likely hit the mirror on the Canon film body.

A quick ebay search finds Canon native mount EF 75-300mm lenses on ebay for around or less than $50 USD - in the end, it'll work properly on the camera and won't cost a whole lot more (and also won't potentially ruin the Canon's mirror as well).

People tend to put Pentax's high end limited lenses on their canon cameras because Canon doesn't offer anything similar - in your situation you'd be best off picking up and inexpensive used lens for the canon camera and be done with it.

Just buy a used AF Pentax film body, they're (often) cheaper than the adapters

e.g. http://global.ebay.com/ASAHI-PENTAX-ZX-50-BODY138146/360394688869/item

Someone on here may even sell you one for the price of a beer plus postage. People buy them from ebay becuase they want the lens the camera is being sold with, and some people amass large numbers of unwanted cameras that way!

Unless you have some sentimental reason to use that lens, I would not try anything of that sort.

Using a lens intended for another body is awkward at best.

The electronics doesn't talk, the mechanical doesn't match; you get nothing but frustration.

If you use that lens it will pretty certainly hit the mirror. To get around this you would need to either remove the aperture lever from the lens (reversible) or grind down the aperture lever short enough not to foul the mirror (the lens should still work on a Pentax camera with the lever partially ground off).

Since film cameras are so easy to obtain used, I doubt I would find it worth it to make this lens work on the EOS 5000. Since the lens is not a fast one, it's probable that you would not have too much trouble obtaining an EOS lens that has similar specs as well.

Not worth it, considering how inexpensive old canon lenses are since they made the old mount obsolete.

That's a nice lens for a Pentax body, especially an AF film SLR or a dSLR, but it's not worth trying to use on an EOS body, for the reasons given above. You'll probably find many equivalent EOS-mount lenses on eBay, lenses that won't have the issues mentioned. Or since the FA100-300 would function as a totally manual (aperture and focus) lens on EOS, you could instead get any of many cheap decent M42 zooms or primes, and use an M42-EOS adapter. But trying to use an AF lens from one system on an AF body of another system will just break your heart (and patience).
