m8o, watch out one thing though.
1.4L teleconverter is specificly designed for all the A* tele photo lenses like 300, 400 and 600 with almost no image sacrifice.
If you are using tamron or sigma or kenko 1.4X tele, you would be quite dissapointing.
I had tested Sigma 300mm f2.8 on k100d before with these teles, quite dissapointing. The colour and resolution suffer greatly
But I could be wrong. Looking forward to your results
Yep, it's the Sigma lens and Sigma TCs for me, both 1.4x and 2x as well as the Pentax 1.7x (I do have Kenco 2x before I joined the more money then brains club and bought the Bigerma and Sigma TCs) . I found the 1.4x added to the 300mm f/2.8 is almost invisible. Hardly affects color or contrast; definitely doesn't affect sharpness. The resolving power is fantastic. Though I've posted all these before in my 'Best of Tanzania' thread, I'll do so again for this...Check the original full-rez on these (link under the picture):

On the other hand... The 2x TC definitely deminishes color and contrast however; which I fix in post pretty cleanly as I shoot in RAW. I was [finally] working on another day's worth of shooting in Ngorongoro Crater yesterday where I used the 2x, so I really noticed the 'compressed' histogram from it.

If you go to my Gallery on Fotki, the Tanzania pics are in date order. All the Wildlife pictures of Tarangire are with the 1.4x (and poli filter). Once in Ngorongoro I knew the animals weren't going to be as close, so I went to the 2x and left it on there and through the Serengeti (1/2 of Ngorongoron and all of Serengeti pics to still come; some fantastic ones in the waiting, as I knew how to use my camera by then. )

They are indeed sharp and beautiful images.

What I meant was using 3rd party 1.4X tele to match A* 300 f2.8 do suffer image degradation.

Obviously sigma 1.4X matches well with your sigma 300 f2.8

LOL. He does look like Mick Maloy for sure til you mention it. I got a collection of shots from that game the other day, battling the flies a lot.

You know the flies are bad when you look back at images and see about 10 of them in your shot ... what I hate is when they crawl aross the lens when you really want to take that shot.
