A picture from this afternoon from my back yard - I have retained the +5 focus adjustment. Uncropped, resized and sharpened in Photoshop CS5.

K5, TAv mode, 1/640th, f5.6, ISO 400, no bias, hand held.
Hand held!! You are so good!! All great pictures, I think you guys should write something on reviews page.

Hope I might get this lens someday.

Thanks for sharing.

Rainbow Lorikeets crawling all over grevilleas in the front yard is something I am very familiar with, and that 500mm renders very nicely, I must say.

However - 50% crop, 60% crop - AdrianM I can see a 800mm in your future...

One of the images I used for a focus test. I know it is pretty agricultural. The first photo is the original image resized to 1000 pixels. The second is 100% crop showing clarity of the writing. This was with the lens at f4.5 (ie. wide open). I'm pretty happy with that. Distance was about 7.5 metres.

One from this afternoon - a Silver-eye in Ipswich, Queensland. I love this lens already. Have retained the +5 focus adjustment. Got three great bird shots this afternoon.

K5; 1/500th, f5.6, ISO 1250. Crop, resize and sharpen in Photoshop CS5.

Nice silvereye Adrian

The lens managed to arrive after the best weather had passed at 3pm while I was on a business call. So I am trying to juggle a range of different client's interest and I find I have the job of picking up the grandson and getting food for dinner and when I arrive home the women leave and I have to feed the kid. Well I did find ten minutes in the black gloom and found a cooperative avocet further down in the wetland

1. i was surprised how light the lens was. I was expecting to look like Ranbow or Arnie. I like the fast focus compared to the bigma. I don't think I will have any problems hand holding.
2. I was surprised it came with a soft lens hood.
3. I was think that the canon/nikon suckers would need to pay 12,000 for something twice as heavy

hopefully attached is my 10 minute trial in super ordinary weather. ISO 800 1/000 f13 a crop and a tweak

PS if you look at the exposure bias on the EXIF file you will see an exposure bias of -1.3. Ever since the Mrs spilled spite all over the K5 the metering has been up the creek. The sprite actually seized all the control dials until I gave it a gentle wash or three. The metering or exposure problem is not the same in all conditions.

Good on you Adrian for being so quick. It can't be posted as yet or maybe I can't find it. I will look tomorrow.

Yes xjjohnno now its time to go the next step with my wildlife photos. It's looking very promising.

Mine arrived from B&H last night: I opened the box(es) this morning. As always when I get a new lens, it's dark an blustery and birds are nowhere to be seen. This was shot tripod-mounted and wide-open with the K-5 [1/400s, f4.5, ISO 1600] no PP.

I'm thinking resolution is quite good and CAs are very well controlled (ahhh!). I expect to like this lens a lot (once I finish paying for it ;~)

Now all you need is co-operative wild life. Firetail finches have this distinct habit of happily posing for pics, waiting till you raise the camera and then doing a runner.

No Firetails, but chats do the same trick here. But I have met some more cooperative firetails near Brisbane so maybe its a melbourne thing. This is what an avocet looks like in the light. It shows up one of the problems my K5 developed after it had sprite spilled on it. The whites are getting burnt out. I suspect you guys will be off firing away with your new lens all weekend. Sadly I need to work. Payback for my last trip I took recently.
