Lens diff. between black and silver

Maybe I'm just being stupid here but I'm trying to tell the difference between the Pentax 40mm f2,8 limited in black for 390$ and the same lens limited in silver for 525$. Besides the obvious color and price difference is there any difference in quality? If I can spend 135$ less for the black version then I will. I just don't want to buy a lesser quality lens.
Thanks!

they are the same lens. the difference in cost reflects a 'fashion fee.'

I'm not sure about the black version, but all the silver one (31, 43, 77) were manufactured in Japan.
All the new one are manufactured in Vietnam.

I'm not a specialist, but some people claimed the Japan version have a better build quality than the Vietnam one.

the FA limiteds have always been available in both silver and black, or at least they used to be, and there was no price difference between them. (someone correct me if I’m wrong there) there was never a difference between the place of assembly between the silver and black FA limiteds. they were all made in Japan, and then they were all switched to being assembled in Viet Nam. the difference here is that the DA limiteds were only ever offered in black. the silver is a recent addition, thus is being sold as a kind of ’special version’ and thus a higher price. I’m not sure of any differences in availability between the black and silver DA’s though.

as for the differences in quality, between the FA limiteds, I have never seen any hard evidence to suggest that, and have even seen evidence of late model made in japan versions exhibiting a lot of the same issues people were claiming of assembled in Viet Nam versions. so I say believe what you’d ike, but I think it does the community no good to constantly keep that attached to the FA limiteds, without any real world proof that you’d be statistically better off with a made in Japan version. its this communities constant crying over that very thing that has driven up the price more of FA limiteds and affected the overall reputation, and helping to cripple lens sales for pentax to I’m certain a calculable degree.

As séamuis said above, all new FA limiteds (black or silver ones) are assembled in Vietnam now. All earlier ones were made in Japan..

As far as I was told by retailer, the silver DA ltds are manufactured in limited quantities. So that's why they are more expensive, just like silver K-7, K-5 and K20D or K10GP.
F.e, in UK it's very hard if not impossible now to get silver 21. The good stockists have only 40 and 70 left...

I guess there are too many silly people here, me included

You can get a silver body to match the silver lens, then you'd have to pay even more, and be even sillier

I want a metalflake candy-apple red version. I'll even pay and extra US$5 for it.

Indeed, the silver is some sort of collectible. Nothing more.

Just overexpose the black; it'll look like silver.
