although a custom focusing screen could help with focusing, I would also advise the OP to purchase or put a Tenpa magnifying eyepiece with a 1.36x magnification.

Oh ... you're interested in getting a flash? Then good news!

Using your flash will enable you to stop down your aperture a bunch of stops, which means your exactly focus point is not nearly as critical.

I have been quite pleased with using my taks + flash on my K-x.
I think I am typically on 5.6 or 8 when I use my flash.

Using the flash inside makes shooting a little less casual, both from the perspective of the shooter and the subject. However I am often very much happier with the resulting pictures.
