Walk-Around/Travel Zoom: Pentax 18-135 vs. Sigma 17-50

Hi,
I'm in the market to replace my K-x kit lens with a new walk-around/travel zoom.

I was going to purchase the Pentax DA 18-135mm, which is going for $429 @ B&H and Adorama.

However, apparently there's a 10% off sale for Sigmas @ Abes of Maine and I was wondering if a Sigma would be a better deal than the Pentax.

Here's the Sigma I was considering (and its sale price):
Sigma 17-50mm F2.8, regular $669, now $587 after sale

Extra focal length on Pentax would be convenient, but I got it covered in a Pentax 55-300. Accordingly, I'm more interested in how the sharpness compares between the two. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

FYI, the coupon codes for Abes are:
DEAL10 - 10% off certain Sigma lenses
LOYALTY15 - $15 off $400, I think

The Sigma 17-50 is a better lens as far as sharpness goes That is most probably due to the shorter zoom range, but you probably won't see much difference between the Pentax and the Sigma in practical use. Not sure how weather resistant the Sigma is, but the 18-135 is a WR lens. Perhaps that is important to you as well.
The other factor is overlap. That can actually be a plus as you won't have to change lenses for middle distance subjects. The 18-135 will probably be on most of the time until you need to get beyond 135 for outdoor subjects.

I recently replaced a Sigma 17-50 with the Pentax 18-135. The sigma is HEAVY and bulky with a 77mm filter size..................the pentax is lighter with a 62mm filter.......my initial sots with the pentax look great.

I have a K5, so there is less concern with having the absolute fastest lens....

I recommend the 18-135

If you're a traveler and casual photographer then the 18-135 is better. There have been several times that I've been with groups and I need a telephoto when I had the kit lens on. But we weren't stopping to dig thru my bag, swap lenses and take some photos. But I usually prefer to travel alone or with an understanding gf.

I have the 18-135 and 16-50. The 16-50 is faster and a tad sharper but the 18-135 is so small light and convenient that it lives on my camera during travel. I also take the 10-17 and sometimes the 55-300 for occasional shots with those but the 18-135 is the workhorse.
