Here's my little table of registers:

09.2 mm -- Pentax Q mount
12.29 mm -- cine D-mount
12.52 mm -- cine CS-mount
17.526 mm -- CCTV C-mount
18.0 mm -- Sony NEX / E-mount
20.0 mm -- Olympus / Panasonic m4/3
25.5 mm -- Samsung NX
27.0 mm -- Pentax Auto 110
27.8 mm -- Leica M & CL & CLE
28.8 mm -- Leica L39 / LTM
28.95 mm -- Olympus Pen-F
~35.0mm -- Argus RF
38.67 mm -- Olympus / Panasonic / Leica 4/3

40.5 mm -- Konica AR & F
42.0 mm -- Canon R & FL & FD
43.5 mm -- Fujica X-Fujinon
43.7 mm -- Minolta MC-MD
44.0 mm -- Canon EOS & EF & EFS
44.4 mm -- Praktica Bayonet
44.5 mm -- Minolta-Sony Alpha
44.7 mm -- Exakta-Topcon bayonet
45.46 mm -- Pentax-Praktica, M42 *****
45.5 mm -- Petri, Contax-Yashica
46.0 mm -- Olympus OM bayonet
46.5 mm -- Nikon F-mount
47.0 mm -- Leica R

50.7 mm -- Adaptall
55.0 mm -- T, T2, YS

Those below Pentax-Praktica, M42 ***** in this list are more-or-less easily adaptable to PK: Petri, OM, C/Y, NI, Leica R, etc. Those above there, mostly aren't. Exakta-Topcon is possible by modding the adapter. Some Argus and other rangefinder lenses with registers no shorter than ~35mm *can* be mounted with infinity focus, by sticking them through a PK body cap. Some Minolta and Canon MF lenses *can* be surgically altered, by pros with power tools. But the numbers show why I only bother looking for lenses in a few mounts: the others are just for closeups, and I have enough damn closeup lenses cluttering my shelves.

NOTE: A Praktica-Bayonet lens awaits my attention. I've given up on X-Fujinon. I still don't know whether to bother with Minolta. Whatever.

Thanks Rico, That's a pretty clear and concise list! Interesting about the praktika. I thought praktika lenses could be put on pentaxes? Or was it only the m42 praktikas and not the bayonets (as listed there)?

That's right. M42 is also known as Praktica mount, or Pentax mount, or Praktica-Pentax mount, or Universal mount, depending on who's selling what where. Here is the history: M42 lens mount - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Praktica Bayonets are a whole 'nother thang.

I just sweep over the canon F mount MF lens 85/1.2.
I know there is no infinity, but interesting in closer range.
Is it easy to mod to k mount?

I haven't tried to muck with an FD mount. I had a pile of such lenses and sold them (for a good profit!) rather than maybe ruin them with my sloppy surgery. Others here have done the necessary cutting and mechanical jiggering. Maybe they can help.

Macro lenses, enlarger lenses, copy-projector-process-xray-etc lenses, no problem. But off-brand glass that can ONLY be used for closeups because of the register thang -- f*ck-em. Enough is enough. That's why I've dumped the Canon+Minolta-XFuji-etc stuff.

Congrats!! I was looking for the same deal in whatever mount ;-)
I think you can use it with a TC to get even longer working distance. Still not sure how the canon behavs with the/which TC.
A TC will work with any lens in multiplying the focal length but I doubt I will be putting one behind the lens often. Even with Pentax F 1.7x AFA it's 340/6.8, maybe I'll give this combination a shot once or twice. If you are looking for a 200/4.0 macro, pm dgaies. He might have the Nikkor 200/4.0 macro lens for sale - I pm'ed him to inquire about the Nikkor and he pointed out the fresh listing of the Canon in the marketplace and the rest is history. A good thing about a Nikkor to PK conversion is that you can retain infinity focus, believe me it comes in handy - I must have tried to infinity focus with the Canon at least half dozen times while shooting.

When I started using an SLR I got iso and aperture pretty quickly but even now I still mess up with shutter speed sometimes, that after a lengthy internship. Stick with it because that's a perfectly normal thing to do. Brian Peterson's books did help me a lot with that but it's mainly been just a question of trial, error and tons of practice. I suppose one of these days I will take having to set all that for granted but so far that's not been the case. I really do have to stop and think about it a lot. I'm a lot better than I was, for sure, but even though I've been properly trained it's still not the easiest thing for me sometimes. I envy my teachers all their experience and time in the field. It always looks so easy when they do it. ;P

Thanks excanonfd, i may contact you later regarding the mod of canon f to pentax k ;-)
3mm differ in register distance is a lot.
Do i Need for a 200mm macro? Not really, i have 5 macros already, and shoot with flash at f16-22-32. The tamron sp 90 with tc x2 gives a great working distance. If some one can sell her/his gear for a higher price, i wont be in the way...

Magkelly,
Its about rutine. I shot to keep skill up-to-date, either daily or weekly but never wait too long. I guesswe are like musicians, practice 10000 hrs will make any one genius ;-)
