Raffwal is perhaps referring to those not so loveavble dungers. I remember some Soligor lenses I'd won, paid way too much and had to almost give them away, spent way too much for glorified coke bottles didn't I.
Of course if you want to collect a lot of lenses that provide seriously cruddy results, be my guest.

Oh yes, the dungers.... gawd. I'm hoping they get lost in the mail.. *snarf*

No, definitely want to keep the kit as fine as possible and stay awy from the dodgy ones. I was eyeing a Soligor today but luckily was patient enough this time around to research a little longer before I bypassed it. Don't want to experience that gut wrenching feeling again, that's for sure!

Show and tell time wolfiegirl, if you don't have the webspace to link to you do have some gallery space here to display the virtues of the glass and the "snarling prowess" of the photographer.

OK! Pictures are up now. Linky Here

It's interesting going through them and comparing. The Miranda has a vintage yellow glow to the images, whereas the Okunon is *very* sharp and clear. The edging is interesting and I put up 2 of the same flower with different aperture. In the lighter one it's interesting how the highlights get blown with white edging. Fascinating!!!!

How to stop bidding: Run out of money.

How to run out of money: Keep bidding.

Isn't that some sort of endless loop???

hehehe. unfortunately the helios i've been eyeing has just tipped over my budget. Considering it's similar kind've specs to the Pentax M 1.7 I think I'll sit it out. There's always gonna be another one out there somewhere, right?

And here's hoping another of my lenses arrives tomorrow. At the moment I'm playing with a new lens everyday! *squee*

Yes, there's always another. But the M50/1.7 and Helios-44 58/2 (Sonnar design) are entirely different lenses, really! Different specs and FOV, and very different rendering and bokeh. I roughly distinguish them as: the M50/1.7 is for shooting people, or shooting things as people; the Helios-44 is for shooting things, or shooting people as things. Does that make sense? They just give different 'looks' to images.

And they make me move in different ways. There's a joke (or is it?) that the Soviets had zillions of Helios-44s churned out, favoring its 58mm vs the more common 50mm standard lenses on Western cameras, either 1) to let comrades shoot tighter, more intimate pictures, or 2) to force comrades to STAY BACK further from subjects. In practice, I choose different distances and angles and subjects with each lens. They're both must-haves. Thus sayeth I. Selah!
