Phoenix, 100mm f/3.5 Macro lens with 1:1 Adapter

Anyone here use this lens?

If so, your opinion?

Sounds like another clone of the Cosina, which was also available as a Pentax branded lens at one stage.

there is a review on PhotoZone here Cosina AF 100mm f/3.5 macro (Pentax K) - Photozone Review / Lab Test Report

Yes, it is a clone, same as the Vivitar, Cosina, and a few others.

Actually image quality is outstanding, especially for the $$$. The only real issue with the lens is build quality, not the best. But for the $$ it is hard to beat! A great way to get into the 1:1 macro world to find out if it is something you would like to continue to pursue.

But, if you do end up liking/loving the wonderful world of macro photography, you will desire a much better lens down the road! Good thing is, the lenses typically go for atleast $60 used without box and paperwork, so if you hold onto your box and papers and keep it in good shape, a year or two down the road you can prolly get a decent chunk of change back by selling it!

I used to have the Vivitar MF version. A little slow at f/3.5 and it only goes to 1:2 (1:1 with the screw-on close-up lens) but it is a pretty sharp lens for the money. I found it a pretty versatile lens on walk abouts as I could shoot something in the distance one moment and just as easily shoot a close-up the next. Pretty small and compact and light in weight, which is great for candids. Very plasticky construction but the optics are good and it doesn't break the bank. Bokeh is quite good. Here's a shot taken with the lens on a K100D.
