How to fit ND400 onto DA15

The smallest thread size for the Hoya ND400 is the 52mm. The DA15 has a built in lens hood which prevents me from putting a step up 49-52mm ring.

Any other way I can get around this? Thanks.

How about you stack several rims (no glass) of 49mm filters until they go beyond the hood then add a step up ring 49-52 to the stack?

Hoya do make a 49mm ND400.

That's it on the left. DA15 w/ CPL on the right.

I bought a Hoya ND 400 from B&H about a month ago in 49mm.

It was probably just my bad luck.

But I bought a Hoya ND 400 for the DA 15mm and it promptly got stuck onto the lens. Could not get it off even with all the different methods outlined on the internet. Mostly because of the built in hood preventing a good grip. In any case, I took it to a camera store and the only way they could get it off was by breaking the filter.

Lens is still ok. But now I was too skittish to try another one...Now that it seems that others have had no problems with one, maybe I will try one again.

Ideally i would like to be able to fit a 49-52mm filter onto the DA15, the same way i can do so for the FA50 (now sold), DA35, and the DA70. Because i have a couple of 52mm filter sizes with me. But it looks like i have to recreate yet another filter selection just for the DA15....

If vignetting is okay then you can use an empty 49mm filter with a step up ring to mount the ND400 and additionally a hood (at least for me). I considered this because I have a few 52mm filters but ultimately decided on separate (but not complete) filter kits for 49mm and 52mm. Almost all of my lenses are 49mm so I'm kind of happy to get rid of the inconvenient step up rings. Here's a thread where this was discussed - https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-camera-field-accessories/155950-da...trictions.html

And no, I don't know how well everything works because all of my LBA is sitting in the states ready to be shipped.
