Hello All,

Trying to decide on which TC to get for the Sigma 100-300 F4 to use with my K5.

Sigma 1.4x EX DG APO or KENKO TELEPLUS DG 1.4X MC

Or ... any other suggestion.

No experience with the Kenko, but I have the Sigma combo and it is excellent. Virtually no loss of IQ when using this TC.

I use the Sigma 1.4x with mine and it works very well.
I also have the 2x and even with that the pictures are pretty good in decent light.

DG. If you've already got that lens, I would consider it a no-brainer to get the matching TC, as it pairs and works seamlessly.

Well, seamlessly meaning it reports the wrong focal length and aperture. (With effects on shake reduction) Other than that, its hard to tell it is attached.

The kenko won't do any better with that in any event. Get the sigma

I wouldn't know about that. This is a tripod-only combo for me, so SR is off anyway.

I did a quick test after I bought the Sigma 100-300mm f4 and sigma 1.4x tc against the Kenko Shq pz 1.4x that I already had and didn't really see much difference so I returned the sigma because I had the Kenko already. I don't know what the prices are now, but the Kenko set me back $37 (LN) when I got it and the sigma was pricey. I don't think I can find the old images or I'd post them for you. The sigma may be better if you have film (less vignetting) But I don't know.

All these people who managed to get hold of 100-300s before they went out of production. Making me jealous

I feel the same way. And to that end, I propose that we no longer discuss the Sigma 100-300mm f4 on this board, unless and until Sigma releases a new version. Until that time, mention of this lens only invokes feelings of jealousy, regret, and rage.

Hey, you could keep your eyes peeled here on the forums, on ebay, classifieds, and etc. They show up. Well, rarely.

I've got a trade up post offering mine toward a 600/4 in the marketplace

I'll make it even worse.....I got the very last one that Amazon US had. When they announced that production would end, many speculated that it was because they were bringing out a new version. That made me pause for about a second and a half, when I realized that I just wasn't willing to risk that they wouldn't.

I expect that there will be a new version eventually, most likely with HSM and OS. I just hope that it can maintain approximately the same dimensions and price. If so, then I'll be one of the first buyers.
