DA 18-135 - Good companion to K20D?

I might be selling my K20D to a local friend who doesn't have a big budget to blow on accumulating lenses; I was thinking of recommending the 18-135mm for him as a single, all-purpose lens with WR (feature he found quite attractive).

I figure in a pinch, he'd be able to borrow my lenses as well which would make it an attractive option to go Pentax.

Thoughts?

I like mine. Solid, WR, fast focus, good colors, great range.

I'll throw mine on the market if my wife would let me! I LOVE the WR and the DC AF motor, it renders colours nice, and it IS versatile.. for a SINGLE lens solution it would be ok, I still think a 50-200 WR + a DA15 would be my first choice.. or if WR isn't really needed a 55-300 + DA15.. but that's just my 2 cents.

I just got the DA18-135mm WR from a forum member recently; and I like this lens a lot... though not the fastest lens, but when stopped down a bit, it gives decent sharpness and contrast; AF is pretty responsive on my k-7.

I find around f8-11 this lens is at it's best. The DC AF motor is very fast and quiet compared to my 43mm Ltd screw drive AF.

Thanks; as an alternative, I was thinking maybe suggesting the following:

- 18-55 WR
- 55-300mm

which might be a more flexible set to have.

Cheers.

For a 2 lens solution I agree for flexability... But, personally, I rarely shoot wider than 50'ish (so 55 would do fine).. and when I do I want WIDE, so thats why I would recommend the DA15 over the 18-55WR.. I find 18 just isn't wide enough for my likings and the 12-24 and even the sigma 10-20's are more expensive than the DA15 which is an amazing performer.
