75-300 debate

I am looking to add a little length to my lens i currently have the 50-200 lens and it is a great lens but it really have the length for any bird shots i may want to take so I was looking at the 75-300 zooms as an alternative to a fixed 300 or 400mm lens and was wondering if anyone has opinions about these lenses
Pentax smc P-FA J 75-300mm F4.5-5.8 AL Lens - (eBay item 200183470813 end time Dec-18-07 13:08:20 PST)
Tamron 75-300mm AF Zoom Lens for Pentax AF SLR Cameras - (eBay item 230202638123 end time Dec-16-07 15:08:57 PST)

I know that the tamron has a option on it for macro from 180-300 so I have to admit I am leaning a little towards the tamron but would love any first hand experience anyone has out there

Never used either of those, but I went with the Sigma 70-300 and have been very happy with it.

I own 16 lenses including the Bigma and the tamron 70-300 is my favorite lens to use. Ok, so I know my Bigma needs servicing so probably isn't far to compare, but still that tamron is a great lens for me. I really do love that tamron 70-300 LI DI!

I've not heard anything at all about the Pentax 75-300, but the Sigma 70-300 APO version and the Tamron 70-300 are two that have fans and comments.

I have the Sigma and like it much better than at first, now that I increase the contrast to at least +2 or +3 in Photo Lab. Otherwise flat and lifeless.

I have the Pentax 75-300 ... and so far it has produced better than expected (reported) images for me. After reading poor reviews on it ... I felt like i waste my money ... but after using it though ... it has been a nice surprise.

Looking at 100% crops of images though does show purple fringing issues with high contrast areas ... but I see that in other images posted around the net with other lenses too.
