Pentax 18-135 vs 18-250

Hello there,

I'm debating between Pentax 18-135 vs 18-250.

anyone any idea? any experience with any of these lenses as walk-around?

Thanks

I used both but the WR, quiet focus and lack of creep won out over the extended range for me, especially for beach combing outings. Sold the 18-250 to finance the 18-135 which has not gotten a lot of love but after using it for indoor college basketball as well as blizzards, I am quickly becoming a fan boy. Now if I could only find that removable lens tab I lost in the woods 6 months ago......

I have acquired the DA 18-135mm WR recently and I like it a lot. The pluses are: focus-quick, responsive and accurate, useable focal length range, nice color, good resistance to flare, solid built with very little zoom creep. I think a super-zoom is just too much compromise across the entire range that I rather crop to get the final result.

I have no experience with the 18-135, however did just write this in another forum regarding the 18-250.

I have the DA18-250 as well and bought as a "leave on the camera" lens.
I have found it great for its price. I am very pleasantly surprised by its versatility (macro to tele).
See this album of shots taken with this lens on a K5
Only neg is it suffers a bit with lens creep-, but no big deal to me.

Incidently, I just noticed, the 18-250 is rated slightly higher than the 18-135 in the Lens Reviews Forum.

I think that the earlier posts summed up well the pros of each lens:

18-135mm: WR & focus speed

18-250mm: range, price, track-record

Both lenses will serve you well and it may be a matter a price and availabiity at the end which may tllt the balance. Like all zoomz, their design is a comprise over the focal length range and will not have the same IQ and sharpness as a decent prime lens.

Hope that the comment may help.

PS: on the 18-250mm, Favorite Lens: 18-250mm

Very late in the game. But I like to mention that I was impressed with the photo quality of 18-250. I was thinking that lens will compromise in quality due to its wide zoom range but I was wrong. Ive many other lenses, prime n zoom, pentax n non-pentax, but this lens is "always" there on one of my camera.

If I was you, it will be a clear choice 18-250 lens. As its better image quality than 18-135 and added zoom range when needed.

I had DA 18-250 ( purchased new - old stock) for a while, it traveled with me many kilometers, small, compact and light , great range, never missed a shot, great IQ , still love it.
Goes very well with K-s1 and any bigger body.
Purchased DA 18-135 used recently ( the price was right) , small, silent AF but not for me, still much prefer the old DA 18-250.
I will be flying shortly to Europe with DA 18-135 and my well used K-5 , they both will be staying in there with my niece.

I didn't realize the thread is over three years old and took a double look at post #4 from a late PF member - Cheers Bramela!
