I just received a 1.4 this week and have been exploring its capabilities. From all that I have read and seen thus far these lenses seem like no brainers for any Pentax owner. These were both in very low light.

Could I replace the kit lens with one of these? I do not like the kit lens.

I'm loving my M50/1.7. If you are used to using MF and stepping forward/backward, then go ahead and bolt it on your camera. I keep my kit lens around just in case I need to go wide, but I'm planning to get a better zoom later on. I've attached a couple quick snaps here.

An HDR using my 50/1.7 here...

I think it would be a little too long a focal length for a kit lens replacement, but it is a great second lens. For a while I used an old SUper-Takumar 28mm f/3.5 as my "walk-around" lens, and a Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4 for shooting indoors. Each one cost about $25 or so. I have SERIOUS seller's remorse about those two lenses...

Love my Pentax-M 50 1.7. Links to three shots using this lens:

Here's another example with the Pentax-M 50 1.7 taken about 2 hours ago.

It's really a great lens; I'm sure you guys will be happy with it. Just to let you know, I always sharpen my photos when I resize them for the web, so my examples are probably not a true representation of this lens's sharpness. But, I will tell you that this lens seems to require less sharpening than my zooms. The fairytale house photo was taken on a tripod and the original viewed at 100% seems very sharp to me.

My only wish is that the K10D would meter more accurately with manual lenses. I often shoot, read the histogram, make exposure adjustments, re-shoot, etc.......until I get it right.

I want to get some more prime lenses because they are generally faster. I'm currently looking at the Pentax-M 100mm f2.8 as well. I was looking into the macro, but it's not 1:1. So, that's a no-go.

imho, m 1.4 is better than a 50 1.7 and fa 50 1.7. i found 1.4 sharper....

I'm assuming that the zoom is actually 75mm on a DSLR because of the crop factor, right?
