These are downsized to 800 pixels wide, uncropped, unadjusted shots I took tonight with the K10D of some local lights with the DA 12-24. This was a test for a shoot I need to do for the Christmas Issue of the Free Press here in the Elk Valley. It is also a test of the DA 12-24 in low light, high contrast circumstances.
Camera settings
- Manual Exposure, -2 stops from center metered
- AWB - doesn't matter, these were PEF anyway, but does affect these jpegs
- Mirror lockup (2 sec delay)
- Shake Reduction off (after I remembered)
I also discovered that the cork in my Manfrotto 0168 ball head's quick release plate is awfully slippery on the bottom of a D-BG2 grip. The camera would turn. I think I need to rough up the cork a bit, although the bottom of that grip is awfully smooth.
1/4" f / 4.0 24 mm ISO 400
2" f/4.5 16mm ISO 100
1/8" f/5.6 18mm ISO 200
0.7" f/5.6 18mm ISO 100 - Aspen Drive. The District lights up the trees every winter. The next shot was take 100 meters to the right of this position.
6.0" f/5.6 16mm ISO 100 - The World's Largest Dumper Truck. 350 ton capacity, 3000 hp @ 900 rpm, Diesel-electric drive. Built by GM Canada in 1974, retired in 1990, set up by our Sparwood and District Chamber of Commerce in 1995 as a tourist trap, er, attraction. The most famous stoppee that I know of was Garth Brooks. It is decorated like this every December. Those tires are 11 ft 6 inches tall. The dump box holds two Greyhound buses and a couple of pickup trucks easily. When raised, the front of the canopy over the drivers cab is 56 feet up in the air.
