In looking at the replies, i think there is still need for a better "compatibility list"

Existing Light Exposure Metering (This applies to all pentax DSLRs):
-KA and later lenses, 100% compatible with all metering modes
-K mount lenses, metering via green button (or equivelent) to set the shutter to match selected aperture in manual mode, and if applicable, activation of the meter using DOF preview, to see exposure without changing settings. There is no open aperture metering on the DSLRs as the aperture setting linkage has been removed, this function is lost.
-M42 mount green button in manual mode or function in Av mode with stopped down metering. There is also no aperture reading linkage, which was used on the SPotmatic F and ES II to read the aperture setting adn give open aperture metering, this function was lost once the K mount was designed.

Focusing (This applies to all pentax DSLRs):
-KAF mount and later Full auto focus function for lenses or lenses with teleconverters where the combined maximum aperture faster than F6.7
-K mount and KA mount lenses open aperture focusing, camera automatically stopps the lens down to shoot.
-M42 lenses must be manually stopped down to shoot. There is no automatic aperture stop down function on the M42-K mount adaptor, this function is lost.

TTL Flash metering *istD to *istDS2 (perhaps *istDL also)
-TTL flash metering supported on these bodies both with external and internal flash. 100 % compatibility with all lenses from M42 to latest

P-TTL Flash metering
-M42 and K mount lenses are NOT supported in P-TTL mode because the camera does not know the aperture. This function is not "lost" because it never existed on any K mount body.
- KA mount and later lenses are fully supported

Power Zoom functions
-Not supported at all on the *istD series, or the K100D and K110D
- On K100DS and later cameras, the motorized zoom function works, but none of the shooting modes, zoom clip, image size tracking, zoom during exposure, etc are supported.

That's because you choose to compare with a camera without an Av mode.
Probably because I never used such a combo, so I don't miss it. Using M mode with the green button is *basically* Av mode to me (you just have to hit that button once or twice in the process). TAv mode would be nice I guess.

Fair enough, anyway...
