Sigma 120-300 f.28 - how many versions ?

Does anyone know how many versions of the 120-300mm f2.8 Sigma built ?

Just looking at the price of the latest version , and the fact there doesnt seem to be a K mount, was really thinking of maybe an earlier model, hoping they would be cheaper

There are no earlier versions in the Pentax mount. There is a product page for Pentax, but who knows if it will ever be produced...

I looked into this before, and I didn't find anything to suggest that there was ever a version released in Pentax mount.

So is that it - there's no older zoom lenses in the 120-300 ballpark @ f2.8 available in K mount ?

Hmm... the review here of the Sig 70-200 f2.8 ( both DG and Non DG ) is as good as the 120-300 f2.8, so perhaps sacrificing 100mm FL wouldnt be such a crime. Then again, the Sig 100-300 f4 also gets a fantastic review

Well I got some information to ask at Sigma Benelux, but they said that they don't expect this lens for Pentax. On the other hand, they don't know so much since they are just a small representative in a small market.

I still want this lens and the difference betweeen 200mm/f2.8 and 300mm/f2.8 is very big. You can crop down with K-5 from 16 megapixel down to just over 7 megapixel.

I have been waiting on this lens also. I sure would love if Sigma made this lens in the K-mount. If they don't release this lens for Pentax I will go ahead and get the prime 300 2.8.

I had the opportunity to buy the FA* 300/2.8 from @Marc Langille when it was looking more promising for this lens to be released, and I made the decision to grab it. I'm not regretting that decision, especially now that it doesn't look like we're going to see the Sigma.

Well that is one of the things, waiting for a year on a lens that doesn't come or maybe it does!

Just ordered the DA*300 to fill the waiting time. Still thinking about the FA*300mm/f2.8 since I can purchase one. But not for now.

I second this. The 120-300 2.8 has some tough trade offs. It is bigger and heavier but has HSM and is suppose to have weather seals. If it comes I will try it, if not I will be perfectly content with the FA*.
