Yes, although, I think it was only made for special orders. Not like there were FA 600s sitting on shop shelves somewhere...

Someone should tell the people at Futureshop here in Canada. They're still selling the 16-45 f4 for $399... It's literally dead stock and they still insist on that price.
FS hasn't carried Pentax since the Kx, it is push to clear product (based on the .95 pricing), if there was a store with stock you could likely go in and negotiate a good price (stores are judged on clearance product partially *.97 and *.95 is what to look for) Given it's only online and they may only have 1 or 2 no one is paying attention to it since in the greater scheme of things it doesn't amount to much inventory. it's probably been sitting at that for over a year. Downtown Camera in Toronto is $370 right now so you could send an email to them pointing out the reality and watch what happens - I doubt making an offer will work via the web

The 16-45mm being discontinued is very old news.

I agree. I purchased mine on closeout from Willoughby's in New York for $300... and that was two years ago. I don't think any new examples have been manufactured since then... but stock is finally drying up. Now, who knows what Ricoh might have planned I believe it's generally assumed the DA 17-70 f/4 was the replacement for the 16-45.

not for the price the DA* is twice the price of the 16-45.

My guess is that Pentax could probably replace it with something else, still wide angle and a bit longer in range (17-70 ?), to do a new kit lense with the K5 successor. It sounds logical to me to give a better kit lense option with the flagship, than with the mainstream body.

wait and see
There is kind of standard for the kit lenses across all brands: 18-55mm. And some even better equivalent of 16-45 will definitely hurt the sales of DA*16-50. So, if you don't have one, grab one until is too late. I do have 16-45 and like it. And I never considered to get 16-50 instead.
