Adaptall 2 job-lot...any opinions?

Evening all

I'm thinking of buying a lot of 3 Adaptall 2 lenses: 80-210/3.8-4, 35-135/3.5-4.5, and a 35-70/3.5-4.5. Alot of old manual zooms. Would really like to get my hands on em and have a play, but has anyone else used them, and have any opinions on how good/bad the optics, build quality etc are?

Anything would be good! Also, I plan on paying around 30-40 pounds for all three...that might influence the decision

Cheers!!

If they have Adaptall-PK adapters, GRAB THEM NOW!! You could recoup your cost merely by selling one adapter.

I just bought a Tamron Adaptall-2 400mm f4.0 and love it. I use Catch focus for focusing and it seems to work really well for old MF lenses. Have fun, Old lenses will sell for at least what you paid so no real loss. Dave

You can check here; adaptall-2.org all three lenses are on the site. If you know the model number of the lenses you've been eying, the better. If you get them all for the price you've stated, that's a good deal.

The price is ok, but check the lenses for fungus or other issues. The second version of the 80-210 (103A) is a really nice compact zoom lens - I don't know the other two. Check what adapters they have - you may end up spending as much for the Pentax adapters as you spent on the lot.

The lenses that you mention are all good, though not "fantastic" as Adaptall-2 lenses go -- but for 30-40 pounds for the whole lot, you certainly cannot go entirely wrong, as long as the lenses are in good, healthy shape. (Even if they don't come with PK adapters).

You WILL notice that in our part of the world eBay (UK) adapter - called Adatall-2 Custom Mounts by Tamron - prices are typically GBP 25-30 for PK-M and GBP 50-60 for PK-A adapters.

We are quite a few Pentaxians who take great joy in playing with these vintage, very well built lenses. May I suggest that you visit the Adaptall Club pages of this forum for a closer look:

I have or had all of these lenses and they are solid performers. Not spectacular, but you definitely won't mind if you have one of them on the camera and a "once off" shot comes along.

I have the model 23A 60-300 SP series zoom & it's a terrific lens. It's razor-sharp and the build quality is first-rate. At that price for three of 'em, it's a no-brainer, provided they're all mechanically and optically sound.

Cheers,
Bobbo :-)

So I bought the lenses, 32 quid for the three. No adapters but I'd already bought one on ebay a week before in preparation ;o) I only paid 15 for it, its an original Tamron model but it didnt actually say exactly what version it was...fingers crossed for the PK-A! I'll be getting hold of all the stuff in a week, so I'll get back to you on condition and performance. Should be fun!

Also, the lot came with 2 Canon FD Adaptall mounts. Any ideas if these are worth anything?

Not very much I am afraid. Take a look at the prices on e-Bay. I wouldn't bother to try selling these. After all, you made a good bargain - and congratulations on that!

They are worth little now and will never gain value. But if you maybe might ever want to practice lens surgery, modding FD bases to fit PK mounts, those will be good cheap test subjects, lab rats. Sacrifice them for the greater good of science. This won't hurt a bit...
