Catch in Focus is a little goodie that Pentax includes with every AF SLR they have ever built, film or digital. Quite simply, when you leave the camera in AF.S (Single shot AF mode) the camera won't release the shutter until it thinks the subject is in focus. I have no idea why every camera maker (with some Nikon exceptions) even bothers to turn off the focus priority just because we mount a manual focus lens. I tried it with my SF-1 when I first got it by setting the camera up on the porch and setting the focus point just above a perch on our hummingbird feeder. Amazingly neat hummer pictures while I was eating supper - I used a locking cable release.

CIF can be used in two different ways. First, set the focus distance and wait for something to hit the magic spot as I did with the hummers. The other option is to focus manually through the focus point. If you whip the focus ring too fast, it doesn't work sometimes, but it is great for getting in focus images of birds with my old M 400/5.6. With the slow aperture, I have to move slowly, but it is great for capturing a bird that is on a perch.
